LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS 7

__________________

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
A. Define point, line and plane;
B. Differentiate collinear from non-collinear points; coplanar from non-coplanar points;
and
C. Represent point, line, and plane using concrete and pictorial models. (M7GE – IIIa-1)

II. SUBJECT MATTER

A. Topic: UNDEFINED TERMS GEOMETRY: (Points, Lines, Planes)

B. Reference: Geometry Book pp.3-4
C. Materials: Power point presentation
D. Values Integration: creativity (being creative)
E. Subject Integration: Filipino, Arts

III. PROCEDURES
A. Preliminaries
 Greetings
 Checking of attendance
B. Motivation
Let the students identify the pictures.
All these pictures represent our topic today which is the UNDEFINED TERMS: POINTS, LINES,
AND PLANES.

C. Unlocking of Difficulties
Let the students know the following words which will be encounter in the lesson.

1. Infinite – means limitless, boundless ( walang katapusan, walang hanggan)

2. Dimension – means measure (sukat)
3. Collinear points – are points lie on the same line.
4. Non –collinear points – are points do not lie on the same line.
5. Coplanar points– points that lie on the same plane.
6. Non- coplanar points – points that do not lie on the same plane.

D. Discussion
UNDEFINED TERMS: (POINTS, LINES, AND PLANES)

 Undefined – means no formal definition, it is usually described or

Illustrated only.

A. Introduce the concept of points by showing the sparkling dots in the sky. Asked the
students what the stars at night look like?

Those dots represent points.

1. POINT – has no size

 It has no dimension (no length, no width, no height, no thickness)
 It shows location or position.

Like:

. .
end of a line
Center of the
circle
. corner of the
rectangle
a. Example of points:

. . .
. .
b. Naming a point
 by using a capital letter.

.A .B .C
.G .H
B. To illustrate the idea of a lines, show a taut wire and asked the students to describe
it.

 The wires are straight and it represent lines.

2. LINE – is always straight and infinite (walang katapusan) in two directions.

 It has no width but has length.

 Arrowheads are used to indicate that the line does not stop at the
points where the drawing stops.
 It can be extend both sides infinitely.

a. How line is being formed?

.
.
 Line is being formed by connecting at least two dots.
b. Naming a line:
 By using two capital letters

. . . .
Example:
A B C D

read as line AB or AB

AC AD BC BD

CA DA CB DB

 By using single lower case script letter.

. . . .
A CB D E y

line y or y

C. To illustrate the ideas of a plane, show a piece of paper. Let the students describe
the object.

3. PLANE – is represented by flat surface that extends infinitely in all directions.

 It has no thickness and edge but it has length and width.
 It contains infinite points.

a. Naming the plane

 By using single capital letter.
E

R
Plane E Plane R
 By using three non-collinear points in a plane.

. . .
.
A G J

. F
C

Plane AFG Plane FGJ Plane GCJ

Plane AFJ Plane FGC Plane FCJ

. . . .
To illustrate the idea of collinear points, let the students observe the location of the points.

P R S X
 COLLINEAR POINTS, points P, R, and X , lie on the same line.

. . ..
K Q
T
Z

 NON- COLLINEAR POINTS, points K, Q, and T, do not lie on the same line.

COPLANAR AND NON –COPLANAR POINTS

Asked the students to observe the two figures. Let them give their observations.

.
Figure 1

. . A
Figure 2
.
.
E I
S

. Y
. H F

 Points E, Y, and S are on the same plane, it is called Coplanar points.

 COPLANAR POINTS– any three points combination that are on the same plane.
 Points A, H, I, and F are not found on the same plane, it is called non -
coplanar points.

 NON – COPLANAR POINTS – are points that do not lie on the same plane.
E. Application
Tell whether each of the following suggests a point, a line, or a plane.
1. One side of a box 6. blackboard

2. A corner of a room 7. A broom stick

8. Sesame seed

3. Edge of a ruler

9. head of pushpin

4. Cover of a book

10.the string on the guitar

5. Tip of a pen

F. Generalization
1. What is a point?
2. What is a line?
3. What is a plane?
4. Differentiate collinear and non- collinear points.
5. Differentiate coplanar and non-coplanar points.

IV. EVALUATION
A. Identify what is asked on the following.
1. It is a flat surface that extends infinitely in all directions.
2. Points that lie on the same line.
3. It is a specific location in space that has no dimension.
4. Points that lie on the same plane.
5. It is of infinite length but it has no width and no thickness.

B. Give 3 objects that represent a

1. Point
2. Line
3. Plane
V. ASSIGNMENT
A. Draw an artwork using points, lines, and planes.

Criteria for Grading Points

1. Neatness 2
2. Originality 3

3. Creativity 3
4. Clear representation of points, 2
lines, and planes
