2. Name all the Philippine laws relevant to the 17 rights aforementioned. Answer the
following:
Philippine laws:
 The 1987 Constitution of the Philippines
 Anti-Torture Act of 2009 (Republic Act No. 9745)
 Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003 (Republic Act No. 9208)
 Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act
(Republic Act No. 7610)
 Indigenous Peoples Rights Act of 1997 (Republic Act No. 8371)
 Magna Carta of Women (Republic Act No. 9710)
 Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010 (Republic Act No. 9994)
a. Do violations of these rights occur despite the plethora of laws relevant to them? Explain.
Yes, unfortunately, violations of human rights still occur in the Philippines despite the
existence of laws aimed at protecting those rights. While laws are essential in safeguarding
human rights, their effectiveness depends on various factors, including enforcement,
accountability, and societal attitudes. No matter how strict the laws enforced to protect an
individual's human rights are, as long as individuals with no sense of respect and moral and
ethical values exist, efforts in safeguarding these rights will still not be enough.
b. How are they violated? Explain
Human rights violations are sadly prevalent across the globe, occurring in various forms
and contexts. Violations in the form of unjust imprisonment, torture, restrictions on freedom
of expression, discrimination, and gender-based violence deny basic freedoms and dignity,
undermine the right to life and security, perpetuate censorship and fear, exacerbate social
inequalities, and reflect harmful norms. Addressing these violations necessitates collective
action to uphold human rights principles and ensure accountability for perpetrators.
c. Give the actions rendered by the Philippine government in addressing these violations.
The Philippine government has taken various actions to address human rights
violations, including the creation and reformation of policies that aim to safeguard these
human rights. Aside from the policies and laws, measures such as capacity-building training,
awareness campaigns, and international cooperation and collaborations demonstrate the
Philippine government's commitment to upholding human rights principles and addressing
violations.
