General Descript ion
KIPOR POWER GENERAT OR T he MA330 AVR is a t hree phase full wave, pulse widt h modulat ed t ype automat ic volt age
regulator
CHANGFA DIESEL PART S (AVR) and forms part of t he excit at ion syst em of t he brushless generator.
Excit at ion power is derived from a shaft mount ed t hree phase permanent magnet generator

performance
CUMMINS DIESEL PART S of t he AVR against non-linear loads and reduces t he radio frequency int erference on t he
generator
t erminals. T he PMG supply enables t he generator to maint ain current into a short circuit .
T he AVR senses t he volt age on t he main generator winding eit her direct ly or via
t ransformers. T his signal
is used to cont rol t he power fed to t he excit er st ator (and hence t he main rotor) to maint ain
t he generator
out put volt age wit hin t he specified limit s, compensat ing for load, speed, t emperat ure and
power factor.
T hree phase RMS sensing is employed for superior volt age regulat ion.
Provision is made for t he connect ion of a remot e t rimmer allowing t he user fine cont rol of
t he generator
out put volt age.
Soft -st art circuit ry is included to provide a smoot h cont rolled build up of generator out put
volt age.
A frequency measuring circuit cont inually monitors t he speed of t he generator to provide
prot ect ion of t he
excit at ion syst em. T his operat es by reducing t he generator out put volt age proport ionally
wit h speed below
an adjust able t hreshold. A furt her enhancement of t his feat ure is an adjust able ‘volt s per
Hert z’ slope (dip)
and a delayed volt age recovery (dwell) bot h designed to improve speed recovery t ime when
t he
generator is used in conjunct ion wit h t urbo-charged engines.
Prot ect ion circuit ry is included which cut s off t he excit at ion power in event of over-volt age
or overexcit at ion
caused by malfunct ion or excessive load on t he generator. T he over-volt age prot ect ion
requires addit ional wiring bet ween t he AVR and t he main generator windings. An out put
signal is
produced which can be used to t rip an ext ernal prot ect ion device in t he even of over-volt age
or overexcit at ion.
Bot h condit ions remain lat ched unt il t he generator has stopped.
Excit at ion limit ing [PWL] allows cont rol over t he amount of current flowing during overload of
t he
generator out put .
