Wiki
Wiki is a website that allows visitors to make changes contributions or corrections.
The term wiki was originally named wiki wiki web. This was introduced by Wrad
Cunningham in 1995. This word came from the Hawaiian “Wiki wiki” which means fast or
swift.
These are available wiki sites that you can use in the web
1. Wikipedia – it is one of the most popular and the most used website. It contains
information of practically all kinds of topic from arts to science, from reality to fiction, from
history to literature to production and manufacturing and anything under the sun.
2. WikiWikiWeb- It is the oldest, open, easiest, and fastest web-based collaborative tool in
the world.
3. Wiktionary- It is an online multilingual dictionary that contains the origin, meaning, and
pronunciations of words.
4. Wikiquote – It is a collection of quotations and refence from well- known personality,
books, movies, etc.
5. Wikiversity - This site supports free learning communication, projects, materials, and
other learning resources that may be used in all levels, types and styles of education
6. Wikitravel – It is a travel guide that uses a Wikimedia’s software. It provides information’s,
history, people, culture, and background of different countries.
7. Wikispecies – It is a directory of species of all forms of life ranging from animalia, plantae,
fungi, bacteria, etc.
8. Wikinews - Compilation of news and story made possible through collaborative
journalism.
9. Wikibooks - This is a free library of educational books and manuals that maybe edited,
changed, and improved by anyone.
Blog
Blog, also called as weblog, it is a personal online journal that contains short written
entries and that can be updated by an individual called a blogger. It is an individualized web
communication tool that enables quick and simple publishing of text, photos, voice updates,
artwork, or links to other websites or other blogs.
Sample of the popular topics or issues published on the blog are those in the field of music,
food, travel, beauty and fashion. These style of blogs are usually ranked by their popularity
based on the number of searches made on google.
Types of Blogs
1. Fashion Blog – contains trends in fashion, seasonal clothing, new fashion styles/design
from well-known brands, prices, where to source and the like.

shops and directions how to go there for the internet users.
3. Music Blog – contains updates in album releases of popular singers or bands. It features
music from indie, rock, pop and songs from local and international artists.
4. Food Blog – contains places to eat popular menus or recipes the bloggers love and how to
go to the caterings/restaurants. There are also critiques of food eaten, prices and
restaurants they recommend for the readers to visit.
5. Beauty Blog – contains beauty products, how they are used, and what they do to the skin,
face and body, prices and ingredients of specific products are also found in this blog.
Steps in Blogging
1. Identify the content of your blog. It includes personal topics such as travel, music, health,
among others.
2. Create your blog. Make it informative and interesting as possible.
3. Look for a social media platform that you are comfortable with.
4. Sign up for an account. Have a unique username.
5. Fill in the details needed in the website.
6. Log in to your new blog.
7. Modify the design and layout based on what you like.
8. Post the blog you have created.
Safety and Responsible Practices in using Wikis and Blogs
1. Use the computer or mobile device for learning, study, and research for information relevant to
your subjects.
2. Keep your password safe and do not give it away.
3. Most sites only allow participants who are at least 13 years old. Children should be guided by their
parents in accessing websites.
4. Respect others and treat them the way you would like to be treated.
5. Do not copy the work of other people. If you want to use the material from someone else, make
sure to cite the author or source.
6. Do not make untrue remarks that embarrass others.
7. Do not use other people’s account.
8. Do not share another person’s full name or send his or her photos without permission.
9. Be careful in sharing your personal information.
10. Follow the rules or netiquette.
11. Use your time wisely, avoid playing unnecessary games. When you are finished turn off the
computer.
