How to Setup Zebra printer on Windows via USB.

Please Note: Zebra ZD420 is used for the illustration purpose. However, this process is
applicable for all zebra printers.

Please follow the steps below for setting up Zebra printer:


1. Make sure media is loaded properly in the printer.
2. Connect the printer to power supply using power cord and to the computer using
USB cable. (Power cords, USB cable are supplied with the printer in the box)

3. Turn on the printer and make sure the status light is solid green.
4. Go to printers and scanners on the computer and check if the printer has been
detected and is in the list. (If it is detected it means, the printer drivers have been
automatically downloaded by Windows.
5. If the printer is not showing up in the list, it means that the printer drivers have not
been installed and you need to install it.
6. To install the drivers please go to the following link and download ZSU Tool (Zebra
Setup Utilities Tool).

7. Run the downloaded file and install ZSU tool.


8. Once ZSU tool is installed, open Zebra Setup Utilities. A dialog box opens, before the
actual ZSU tool, to choose the port as shown in the picture below, choose USB and
click Next.

9. Click Finish in the next dialog box.


10. Now when Zebra Setup Utilities opens, select “Install New Printer” as shown in the
picture below and click “Next” in the dialog box which opens as shown in the picture
below.
11. Select Install Printer in the Installation Options Dialog Box as shown in the picture
below,

12. Select the desired printer from the list of printers in the Select Printer Dialog Box and
choose Next, as shown in the picture below (Please note: There may be 2 or 3
versions of the same printer model, make sure to choose ZPL version unless there is
specific requirement of other drivers),
13. Select USB001 from the list of port in the Printer Options dialog box as shown in the
picture below,

14. Make sure both checkboxes are unticked in the Additional Install Options Dialog Box,
as there is no need for any additional installations, then click Finish, as shown in the
picture below,
15. You should now be able to see the printer in the ZSU Tool, as shown below,

16. Now you should also be able to see the printer in the printers and scanners list, as
shown in the picture below,
17. Click on the printer in the list, you will see three options, click on manage, as shown
in the picture below,

18. Now, make sure the Printer status: is Idle, Select Print Test Page and the printer
should print a test page, please refer to the pictures below,
19. Once the printer prints the test page as shown in the picture above, the printer is Set
up and Ready to be used.
