OBSERVATIONS, CHALLENGES AND RECOMMENDATIONS

 Due to inflationary changes brought about by the effects of COVID and the worldwide state of
affairs, commodity process have increased escalating the price of transport, cement and steel.
This from the contractors has affected their BOQs significantly.
 Slow work progress especially at Lab1 and lab2. The handover date of 20th/04/2022 given by
Mukati director was breached.
 Dry weather hence causing the planted trees and grass to whither. If the situation persists,
sprinklers will be a better option because watering with a large diameter pipe only hardens the
soil.
 Cracked ceiling at the dormitory block. This was probably caused by lack of support in the hoist
truss hence deforming due to the heavy ceiling. The contractor should consider adding supports
in the hoist trusses as soon as possible as any delay will render the building unsafe for the
occupants.
 Shoddy works especially on Labs. Site leaders like the foreman and administrator have
abandoned the site probably due to delayed payments hence making it hard for me to pass on
important instructions to the demotivated workers.
