I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of 60 minutes’ discussion, students are expected to:
• Identify the appropriate food during adolescence. H7N-llb-c-21
• Prioritize essential nutrients and their functions.
• Cultivate skills in selecting healthy foods to navigate adolescent changes.

II. SUBJECT MATTER


Content Standard: The learner demonstrates understanding of nutrition for a
healthy life during adolescence.
Performance Standard: The learners make informed decision in the choice of
food to eat during adolescence.
Topic: Nutrition during Adolescence
Reference: Health 7, Quarter 2 – Module 1, MELC Based
Materials: laptop, projector and activity sheets

B. Review/Warm Up
In your previous lesson, you learned about the foods that
make our body healthy and strong. Let us see if you can
still remember them. All you have to do is to say CIRCLE
if it is healthy food, otherwise say BOX if it is unhealthy.

C. MOTIVATION
“Wish upon a Fairy Godmother”
Have you experienced craving for certain food and you “Yes, Sir”
cannot buy it for some reasons? Maybe it is just the right
time to have it in just one SNAP! Start thinking of the food
that you want to eat almost every day!
Direction: Imagine that there is a Fairy Godmother who can
give you the food you wish to eat every day. Write them it
down on a clean piece of paper.
Question: Do you know that there might be foods from
your wish list which are not good for your health? Please
reserved your answers for you are going to used that as
we go along with our discussions. So please keep it for “Okay, Sir”
later.

ACTIVITY: “What is it?”


1. The class will be divided into two groups.
2. Everyone will observe and follow the rules and
regulation during the groupwork.
3. Each group will select a leader and a reporter.
4. They will be given five minutes to finish the task.

D. PRESENTATION OF THE LESSON


Our topic for today is all about nutrition education. What “food”
word come up in your mind when you hear about the word “go, grow and glow food”
nutrition? “Health”
…….
Nutrition – is the study of food in relation to the health of
an individual. The community or society is a part of the
process through which food is used to sustain life and
growth.

Proper Nutrition – also helps prevent non-communicable


diseases in the future such as cardiovascular disease,
cancer, and osteoporosis.

According to Science Revision Biology, cardiovascular


diseases are disease of the heart and the blood vessels and
are non-communicable disease.

Therefore, the best diet for preventing heart disease is one
that is full of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, nuts, fish, (students will listen
poultry and vegetable oils. Also, eat a heart-healthy diet, attentively)
maintain a healthy weight, get good sleep, manage stress
and get regular health screenings to avoid heart attack.

Other Essential Nutrients and their Function


Essential nutrients are compounds that the body function (the students will listen)
and work actively. According to World Health Organization,
these nutrients must come from food and they are vital for
disease prevention, growth and good health. These
nutrients are (please refer to the table below)

HEALTHY EATING TIPS


1. Limit sugar and salt.
2. It is not what you eat, it is how you eat. Moderation is
the key.
3. Eat clean and safe food.
4. Do not skip meals.
5. Add calcium for bone health, protein for energy and
fiber to stay fit.
6. Add colorful fruits and vegetables.
7. Eat healthier carbohydrates and whole grains
