Bid Specifications

General Requirements

One (or more) electronic monitoring, recording and display device for use with
Scott’s range of Self Contained Breathing Apparatus consisting of the following
subassemblies:

1) Electronic Monitoring Unit

2) Distress Signal Unit (DSU)/Personal Alert Safety System (PASS)
3) Optional integrated radio module
4) Optional Base Station

The equipment must be intrinsically safe and approved to ATEX.

1. Electronic Monitoring Unit

The unit should incorporate a pneumatic gauge and whistle (see 5 & 6). It should switch on automatically as soon as it senses
pressure in the pneumatic system of the BA set or a signal from the DSU unit.
The unit upon activation should perform a self-check. A large LCD display will show the pressure. The display can be backlit at
the press of a button. By pressing and holding a button, the display will scroll through pressure, time to whistle and environmental
temperature. Three bright LED’s above the display will show the status of the unit. The unit will data log information, which can
be downloaded via a RS323 port to a computer, using a user software utility for after event analysis. The unit shall be configurable
to the users requirements using the service centre software. The EMU should be able to be fitted with an optional radio module.

2. DSU/PASS

The DSU/PASS unit should be activated by removing a tally key. It shall have two sounders and utilise a movement sensor, which
operates with a ball bearing within a ring shaped chamber breaking an infrared beam. The unit shall contain two 9-volt batteries.
Upon pre-alarm the unit shall be able to be cancelled by pressing a button on the EMU unit as well as by the users movement.

3. Optional Integrated Radio Module

The radio module should be able to be fitted into its housing in the EMU unit at either the time of purchase or at any time that
the user requires it. It shall be able to convert the system into a telemetry system and be capable of transmitting the parameters
being monitored by the EMU back to a base station. It shall also be capable of receiving information from the base station and
be capable of proliferating evacuation signals

4. Base Station

The Base Station should be able to be used independently or in conjunction with the users existing tally boards. It should be able
to run from both batteries and a 12v/24v supply. It shall be able to be linked to other Base Stations. It shall be capable of logging
on up to 50 users and displaying their elapsed time, pressure and time to whistle. This display should always inform the user of
how many units are logged on. Should an EMU unit fitted with the telemetry module alarm then this will be reflected on the base
station with that user being presented on the screen. A loud sounder and flashing LED will be activated to bring the control officers
attention to the system and this will remain active until the alarm is acknowledged. The base station should be capable of evacuating
those users that are logged onto it. It should be able to evacuate them individually, as teams or all users.
The Base Station will be able to keep an event log of its users, which can then be downloaded to a computer for after event
analysis

5. Pressure Gauge

The unit shall feature a 300 bar pressure gauge to monitor cylinder pressure at the input of the first stage reducer. It will feature
a luminous dial, indicating 0-350 bar. The gauge shall be shoulder strap mounted and capable of being pulled close up to the
facemask for use in poor visibility.

6. Low Pressure Warning Alarms

The unit shall feature a pneumatic low-pressure warning alarm that will operate at 55 bar.
The alarm shall be a warning whistle, mounted next to the pressure gauge.
