A Detailed Lesson Plan in Science 7

I. Objectives
At the end of a 50 minute discussion, the students must execute the following with 75% level
of proficiency.
a. identify examples of Renewable and Non-renewable resources;
b. differentiate Renewable resources from Non-renewable resources;
c. show importance of Renewable and Non-renewable resources in our daily living.

II. Subject Matter

Unit: 4
Topic: Renewable and Non-renewable resources
Reference: Science Learner’s Material Grade 7
Materials: Laptop, LCD Projector and PowerPoint Presentation

III. Learning Procedures

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
A. Preparatory Activities
Good morning class! Good morning Ma’am!

“Stand up and let us pray. Sophia,

kindly lead the prayer.”

“Before you sit kindly pick up the

pieces of trash under your chair and (The students will follow)
arrange your chairs properly.”

“Monitor who is absent for today?

Very good class! None Ma’am!

1. Review

Before we proceed to our new

lesson let us have a short review
about our previous lesson.

What was our past lesson all about? It’s all about Natural Resources.
That's Right!

What are Natural resources? Natural Resources are any part of our natural
Exactly right! environment which is utilized by human beings for
their welfare.

What are examples of Natural Land, air, water, forest, minerals and wildlife’s.
Resources?

Very Good! It seems that you’ve

listened very well on our previous
discussion, let us now proceed to our
new lesson.
2. Motivation

As an introduction on our new lesson,

we will play a game entitled “4 Pics 1 Round 1. Answer: WATER
Word”. Here are the mechanics of our
game;

Mechanics:
1. Observe and analyze each set of
pictures.
2. Arrange the jumbled letters to
get the possible answers.

Round 2. Answer: RENEWABLE

Everyone must participate, just raise

your hands if you want to answer.

Round 3. Answer: FOSSIL FUEL

Round 4 Answer: NON-RENEWABLE

Round 5 Answer: RESOURCES

Water, renewable, fossil fuel, non-renewable and

What are the words you encountered in resources.
our game? Yes
Very good!
Activity 1:

Resources Can or Can or Sustainable RR
1. Activity Can’t Can’t be or Or
be replenished unsustainable NRR
To further discover the deeper meaning
replaced
of renewable resources and non- WATER
renewable resources you will have an COAL
activity. SOLAR
ENERGY
Instructions: PETROLEUM
WIND
1. Study the table and write the
NATURAL
characteristics that correspond GAS
to the given resources.
2. Do the activity in 10 minutes and CORRECT ANSWERS
afterwards we will post the check Resources Can or Can or Sustainable RR
your work and discuss the activity Can’t Can’t be or Or

replaced
REMINDERS:
WATER CAN CAN Sustainable RR
1. All must participate with this COAL CAN’T CAN’T Unsustainable NRR
activity. SOLAR CAN CAN Sustainable RR
2. Do the activity actively and ENERGY
silently. PETROLEUM CAN’T CAN’T Unsustainable NRR
WIND CAN CAN Sustainable RR
NATURAL CAN’T CAN’T Unsustainable NRR
GAS
(After 10 minutes we will check their
answers and further discussion of their
activity will follow)
2. Discussion
Based on your activity, how can you
classify resources as renewable? From the word renew which means can be replaced.
Very good!

What are the examples of renewable Water, solar energy and wind
resources in your activity?

Why is water an example of renewable Because water can be used over and over again and
energy resource? it is replaced by rain cycle.

What about solar? Why is it renewable? It is renewable because it can naturally regenerate
over a short period of time.

Why is wind an example of renewable Because it is affordable, clean and sustainable. It

energy resource? can be sufficient to generate energy for a household.

Now, let’s move on to non-renewable

resources.

How can you classify resources as non- From the word non which means not, therefore non-
renewable? renewable is cannot be replaced.
Very good!

What are the examples of non- Coal, petroleum and natural gas.
renewable resources in your activity?

Why are they considered non- Because it takes longer time for them to replace. It
renewable resources? takes million of years for dead plants and animals to
Very good! turn into fossil fuel.

C. Generalization
Based on our activity what do you think
is our lesson for today? Yes? It’s about Renewable and Non-renewable
Very good! resources.

Kindly differentiate renewable and non-

renewable resources? Yes? Renewable resources can be easily replaced
while non-renewable takes a very long time to
Precisely! replace.

Any other idea? Yes?

Exactly! Renewable resources can be replenished while

non-renewable resources cannot be replenished.

What about in their availability or

supply? Yes?
Renewable resources are sustainable while non-
Very good! renewable resources are unsustainable.

It seems like you listen very well in our

discussion.

D. Application
Now, look at your and surroundings.

Give some examples of renewable

resources that you can see in your
surroundings. Yes? Trees

What else? Yes? Plants

Any other? Yes? Animals

What about non-renewable resources that

you can see in our surroundings? Yes? Soil

What else? Yes? Rocks

Any other? Yes? Sand

Very good examples!

E. Valuing
What is the importance of renewable and
non-renewable resources in our daily
living? Yes? It sustains our needs!
Very good!

Any other idea? Yes? They are important for us to live and survive.
Precisely!

What should we do to save our We need to conserve every resources that we

resources? Yes? have..
Nice answer!

IV. Evaluation
In a ¼ sheet of paper
DIRECTION: Identify the following examples if it is renewable or non-renewable.
Write RR if it is Renewable Resources and NRR if it is Non-renewable Resources.

1. Solar Energy
2. Water
3. Natural Gas
4. Geothermal
5. Plants
6. Petroleum
7. Biomass
8. Soil
9. Animals
10. Coal

V. Assignment
In your Science notebook.
List down 10 important things you can do to conserve our resources.
