IMPORTANT NOTICES University Church. The processional march will immediately start
at 8:00 AM.

1. Commencement Rehearsal at the Uypitching Multi-purpose B. Assembly time at 7:30 AM. Candidates assemble along the roads
Hall (UMPH) on Friday, May 26, 2023. fronting the Oriental Hall, Science Complex, MMS and William
Barry Thompson; and Dignitaries assemble at the Oriental Hall
• Practice Begins: 9:00 AM Lounge.
• Shuttle Service is available but limited
Bus Area: Along Hibbard Hall
Time : 6AM- 9AM C. Five minutes before the start of the processional march, the
Silliman University Church plays the Chimes.

2. Baccalaureate Service: Sunday, May 28, 2023 D. Attendance is monitored by assigned moving staff from each
8:00 AM, SU Church college/department.

• Assembly time: 7:30 am E. All candidates are led by their Deans/Directors for Marching
• Processional march starts at 8:00 AM Advisory structure, please see page 3 of this information booklet.

 DRESS CODE AND DECORUM
1. Those on stage who are involved in the program must wear
academic regalia.
2. Wearing of Academic Caps
A. With the tassel on the right, the candidate’s cap mortar board is
worn horizontally on the head with the point directly at the center
front of the forehead.
B. Remove caps upon entering the Church and all throughout the
worship service.
3. Wearing of Academic Regalia
As adopted from the practices prescribed by the American Inter -Collegiate
Bureau of Academic Costumes, these are the guidelines:
A. Over white shirt, necktie, dark-colored pants, black shoes and socks,
men wear their gowns at 8 inches from the floor. This dress
contributes to the solemnity of the occasion.
B. With the white collar attached neatly to the gown’s neckline, a woman
candidate for graduation wears this academic regalia over a white
dress and dark–colored shoes with the gown’s hemline at 7 inches
below the knees. In this attire, the CORSAGE destroys the
professional value and solemnity of the occasion.
C. For a master’s degree candidate, women wear long-sleeved white
dresses; men wear dark coats under the gown.
D. Gowns for master’s and doctoral candidates are worn open; other
candidates close their gowns at the top part only.
E. The tassel colors indicate the different degrees as adopted by the
University: Agriculture (maize); Arts, Humanities (white); Commerce,
Accountancy, Business (golden yellow); Computer Science (gold);
Education (blue); Engineering (orange); Fine Arts, Architecture (brown)
Mass Communication (red); Law (purple); Music (fuschia pink);
Medical Technology, Nursing (peach); Physical Therapy (maroon);
Public Administration (peacock blue); Public Health (peach); Science,
Mathematics (golden yellow); Social Work (lemon); Theology
(scarlet); Medicine (green & red); Pharmacy; IEMS.
4. Decorum must be observed by the candidates as well as those on stage.
Candidates are not allowed to roam around or do picture taking while
the program is going on. They will be barred by marshalls from
getting in.

UNIVERSITY COMMENCEMENT EXERCISES
A. The University Commencement is scheduled on May 28,2023 at
3:00 PM at the Uypitching Multi-Purpose Hall (UMPH).
B. No Processional for Candidates. Instead, they go directly to their
seats.
C. The faculty and dignitaries assemble at the Function Room at the
back of the stage of UMPH at 2:30 PM.
D. The University bell rings 5 minutes before the time to signal the
start of the processional march.
E. Processional march for dignitaries will immediately start at 3:00 PM.
F. Marching is in two files, entering at the center aisle of the
UMPH.
G. The candidates and the audience stand as the faculty and dignitaries
enter on stage.
H. Faculty are encouraged to attend and must wear their academic
regalia.
I. Late candidates are prevented by the college secretaries & Registrar’s
Office personnel from entering the graduation candidates’ seats.
J. The University Registrar collectively presents the candidates to the
President to grant the degrees.
K. The President quotes the authority to grant the degrees.
L. Subsequently, all candidates transfer the academic caps tassels from
right to left. Mr. Joshua Soldivillo and Ms. Jael Romanaser Patrimonio
read the names of the graduates.
M. Graduates line up on both side of the stage as their names are
called for the Recognition of Graduates.
N. For the recessional: Dignitaries, Administration (Executive Officers),
Trustees, Deans/Directors, Unit Heads, Department Chairpersons,
Program Coordinators and the faculty march out towards the left
side of the UMPH ; while the Dean of Student Services leads the
graduates to march at the center aisle towards the Exit Door.
