Facts and History

The City of Malabon University (CMU) was founded in 1994 through

Municipal Ordinance No. 14-1993, at Brgy. Panghulo, Malabon City, and was
first known as Malabon Community College (MCC). It was intended to provide
local residents of Malabon, especially those coming from low-income families,
affordable means of acquiring higher education geared towards the demands
of an emerging global village at minimal cost. MCC initially offered four courses
until it flourished into having its own graduate school known as Graduate
Studies and Applied Research (GSAR). A year thereafter, MCC put up its first
permanent building on a 2-acre land in Brgy. Longos, Malabon City.

After Malabon officially became a city in 2001, Malabon Community

College was changed to Malabon City College. Bearing no significant change
in its name, MCC remained true to its mandate through continuous
development of its globally competitive professionals, managers, instructors,
entrepreneurs, and leaders. Through MCC’s noticeable growth and
development, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) immediately
recommended its upgrade into a University status, thus, MCC was renamed
as City of Malabon University.

The City of Malabon University is now home to five colleges: College of

Arts and Sciences, College of Business and Accountancy, College of
Criminology, College of Engineering and Technology, and College of Teacher
Education. In the past two years, CMU received a Certificate of Eligibility from
the Commission of Higher Education, granting it the privileges under Republic
1
Act 10931, or the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act, and
soared higher by through its five (5) ALCUCOA-accredited programs namely,
Bachelor of Science and Accountancy, Bachelor of Science in Management
Accounting, Bachelor of Arts in Journalism, Bachelor of Arts in Public
Administration, and, Bachelor of Early Childhood Education. As of December
2021, CMU became an ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System (QMS)
Institution.

With the relentless support of the Local Government of Malabon through

City Mayor Hon. Antolin “Len Len” A. Oreta III, who is likewise the Chairman
of the University’s Board of Regents, CMU now boasts of more than four
thousand students, a quarter of which are scholarship grantees of the City
Government through Mayor Len Len Oreta (MLLO) Academic and Athletic
Scholarship Program. CMU also offers more than 20 courses for undergraduate
and post-graduate level combined. Its existence has brought about thousands
of graduates and turned to be a force in the professional world that brought
significant contributions in community and nation-building. Being one of the
first local university to have all of its program recognized by CHED, the future
remains bright for CMU as it lives up to its mantra as the “Home of City
Scholars”.
