Introduction
Understanding temperature scales and coefficients of thermal expansion is essential in various scientific
fields. In this activity, we will explore the conversion of temperatures between Fahrenheit, Celsius, and Kelvin
scales, as well as define the coefficients of thermal and volume expansion.
Learning Competency/ies:
• Convert temperatures and temperature differences in the following scales: Fahrenheit, Celsius, Kelvin
Objectives:
At the end of the activity, learners will:
1. identify the different temperature scales: Fahrenheit, Celsius, and Kelvin scales; and
2. convert the data obtained using three (3) different scales.
Procedure:
1.The class will divide into four (5) groups with eight members (8), and divided into two set (Group A and
Group B). Each group will choose their leaders. (See table VI. for the rubrics of the activity)
2. Label the with beaker A for water and beaker B for cold water.
3. Fill the beaker A with water (150ml) and beaker B with cold water (150ml)
4. Record the temperatures before placing them in heat source. (See table II.)
5. Place the beaker in the heat source
6. Observe the water and cold water every 2 minutes and record how many is added to the temperature, record
them using Celsius scale (See table III.)
7. Continue observing until it reaches in trial 5
8. Convert the temperature from Celsius to Fahrenheit and Kelvin one at a time. (See table IV.)
9. Using the formula given, convert the obtained data from degree Fahrenheit to Kelvin

Guide Questions:
1. Which set up shows higher temperature in terms of degree Celsius?
2. Which set up shows higher temperature in terms of degree Fahrenheit?
3.Which set up shows higher temperature in terms of degree Kelvin?
4. What is the formula in order to convert Celsius to Fahrenheit to Kelvin?
5. Why do you think conversion is important?
