Asian Institute of Technology and Education, School
Year 2023-2024

INTRODUCTION
Reading Comprehension is a global
concern in education. In the
Philippines, reading comprehension
remains a pressing concern within the
CHAPTER I education landscape, many Filipinos
student still exhibit difficulties in
comprehending texts across various
subject. This study aims to investigate
the reading comprehension abilities of
Grade 11 Humanities and Social
Sciences Students at AITE.
BACKGROUND
OF THE STUDY
There are still many Filipino learners who are struggling to
meet the learners standard in early language and literacy.
Reading couldn't be successful if there wasn't enough
comprehension and critical thinking to fully understand what
she or he reads. Reading comprehension is an important
lifelong learning skill. Students need reading comprehension
and critical thinking at all education levels and for all school
subjects of testing and evaluation.

SCOPE AND DELIMITATION


Reading comprehension is one of the
most important skills that students
need to learn and put into focus, yet
most of them struggle to read and
understand each paragraph, which
may result in poor grades at school.
CHAPTER II Both in the Philippines and in other
countries, reading comprehension
difficulties are a widespread
challenge. Addressing this issue
requires the implementation of
effective strategies and
interventions aimed at enhancing
reading comprehension skills.

ETHICAL CONSIDERATION

The respondents' dignity was respected by the


researchers. There was no lying or overstating of
the study's goals or objectives when the survey
was being administered. The results of the data
collection were reported by the researcher in an
honest and open manner, with no changes made.

Conclusion: This study examined the proficiency of students in
reading comprehension. As a result, reading
comprehension must be learned. According to the
respondent's answers, a few of them struggled to
understand what they read. As a result of the
respondent's answers about the reading material, 72% of
CHAPTER V respondents have poor reading comprehension, 24% of
respondents have average reading comprehension, and
4% of respondents have excellent reading
comprehension. Some of the primary reasons are that
they don't have the willingness to read. To enhance the
reading comprehension of the students, they can read
English books regularly, watch English movies, and listen
to podcasts to improve their reading comprehension.
