Lecturer : Dr. Ratna Dewi, S.S., M.Hum

Based on the 10 articles that I have review, there are several trends and potential gaps in research
related to the using English music on social media in improving vocabulary are

Based on the summary of the related journals above, several trends and research topic gaps
emerge, including:
Trends addressed by related journals:
1. Effectiveness of Music for Vocabulary Learning: Various studies (1, 3, 6, 7, 8) highlight the
positive impact of using English songs to improve vocabulary mastery. Learners benefit from
repeated exposure, catchy tunes, and the context provided by the lyrics.
2. Potential of Social Media for Language Learning: Studies (4 & 9) show that social media can
expose learners to new vocabulary through interaction and content. Platforms like Twitter or
Instagram may host trending discussions with certain vocabulary, or students may follow
accounts that use interesting English.
The Gaps Addressed by the research topic are:
The gap lies in the limited research regarding the intersection of music and social media for
vocabulary learning:
1. Social Media Not Studied in Song-Based Learning: Studies that focus on music (1, 3, 6, 7, 8)
treat music as a learning tool in its own right, not explored in conjunction with social media.
They did not explore how social media might influence music choices, learning activities, or
vocabulary strengthening.
2. Limited Research on English Language Education Students: Most research targets general
language learners (4, 9, 10). The focus of the research is English Language Education students,
who may have different learning approaches or goals and could benefit from innovative
methods for teaching vocabulary using music and social media.
3. Social Media Platforms for Music Learning: This research topic will look at/investigate social
media platforms such as(Youtube, Spotify, language learning apps with music integration) that
English Language Education students use to discover and engage with English music to build
vocabulary.
4. Learning Activities on Social Media: as a research gap researchers will analyze which learning
activities students think are most effective on social media (quizzes, discussions, collaborative
projects) to improve vocabulary learning using music.
All the research but there is not research using from social media so at the end the focus of the
research aim
