Q1: Mr. Taneja is the Chairman of Navyug Ltd. which is involved in manufacturing of new year diaries
since last two decades. He is responsible for the welfare and survival of the organisation. On an average, if a
diary costs Rs.100 (including paper, printing, binding etc.) then company has a policy of selling it at MRP
of Rs. 125, thereby earning a margin of 25% on cost. The management, in order to exploit the growth
potential of the company fully, is planning to add table calenders and telephone diaries also. Due to this
addition of new products, number of employees have to be doubled and, hence sales volume would also
increase. Different corporates are also giving bulk orders to the company during Diwali season. Reputation
of the company is growing day-by-day. The paper material used by the company is recyclable and not
harmful for the environment, i.e., eco-friendly. Some part of the profit, earned by the company, is also
donated to old age homes and blind school.

Q2 :ABC Ltd. is a renowned company in Kirti Nagar market of Delhi for manufacturing quality furniture.
From last 20 years, ABC Ltd. has occupied the No. 1 position in the market. It also specialised in imported
furniture besides domestic one. It manufactures for both commercial and residential/domestic use. For this,
company has hired two managers one each for commercial department and residential department.
Mr. Sharma, who is the incharge of manufacturing furniture for commercial purpose, got the target of
manufacturing 100 pieces of office tables from a corporate house. To achieve this target, Mr. Sharma has to
operate on double shifts due to power failure most of the time. He is able to manufacture 100 pieces of
office tables but at a higher production cost.
Whereas, Mr. Gupta, who is the incharge of manufacturing furniture for residential/domestic use, got the
target of manufacturing 50 double beds for one Ashram in Vrindavan. Mr. Gupta concentrated more on
manufacturing; beds with fewer resources (i.e., cutting down the cost of production) due to which he could
not achieve his target.
a) From the two, which manager is effective but not efficient? Why?
b) Name the manager who is efficient but not effective. Give reason also.
c) What should be the ideal aim of managers in given situations?

Q3: Vikas has completed his C.A. by clearing a specified examination by the Institute of Chartered
Accountant of India. No body can become a C.A. without this step. He is working as finance manager in
Kajaria Ltd. which is involved in manufacturing of tiles. There are other Chartered accountants, too, in the
company but Vikas has the reputation of creative application of existing theoretical knowledge which he has
gained during his education. He integrates the activities of finance department with production and sales
department due to which performance of the company is geting better day- by-day.

d) Name the concept of management which Vikas is performoing by integrating the activities of his

Q4. XYZ Ltd. is a garment manufacturing company operating from one of the rural villages in the state of
Jharkhand to promote the sale of Indian handloom and handicraft products. Mr. Rupesh Verma was
appointed at the post of manager by the management two years back and he was authorized to undertake all
steps to ensure achievement of the objectives of the company. Mr. Rupesh Verma decides when to
undertake the production of the different garments along with the quantities, variety and size etc. He was
also authorized to select the suppliers to ensure timely availability of resources. He undertakes various steps
to ensure availability of sufficient skillful employees in the company to complete the assigned task on time.
In order to improve the productivity of the employees he continuously communicates with them, sort-out
their problems and also praises their effort to motivate them. Based on last two years working Mr. Rupesh
Verma suggested to the management that special offers must be given during festival seasons to improve the
sales and to achieve reduction in the cost of production.

Q5: Ms. Jennie is the head of a dramatic group which organises plays in different cities of the world for the
last many years. Their plays were very famous throughout the world but now their popularity shows a
downward trend. She, therefore decide to revive the group by hiring some new professionals of the similar
field having world fame. She also undertook necessary changes in her plays as per the requirement of the
time to regain popularity.

Q6: Glenmark management outlined its long term strategy and thoughts on medium Term prospects. The
management expects its niche US pipeline to drive growth over the next few years while specialty initiatives

products development globally while tactically looking at other segments relevant to different markets.
Glenmark expects faster approvals and better quality launches to drive 15-20% revenue growth, despite

Q7: Adharshila Vidyalaya believes in holistic development of students and encourages team building
through a mix of curricular, co-curricular and sports activities. On its Founders' Day a stage performance
had to be put up. A committee of ten prefects was constituted to plan different aspects of the function. They
all decided to use recycled paper for decoration. As there was a spirit of unity and harmony and all members
supported each other with mutual trust and belongingness, the programme was systematically planned and
executed. Arvind, one of the prefects, realised that unknowingly the group had applied one of the principles
of management while planning and executing the programme. He was so inspired by the success of the
function, that he asked his father to apply the same principle in his business. His father replied that he was
already using this principle.

Q9:All the players of the team want to play whole-heartedly .To win the game is their only objective ,but
their captain does not tell timely what each one of them is to do. On account of division of work, victory
often slips out of the hands of the team.
The captain of another team divides the work properly at the right time. The work is handed over to all the
members of the team in accordance with each individual’s interest and calibre .But the majority of the team
members want to see the captain losing the game. Defeat of such team is almost definite .

Q10: Mr. sidharth has completed his education of MBA. During the course of his MBA he got the full
theoretical knowledge of management.Now he has a full knowledge of management and is ready to work as
a manager. He got selected in Volta Limited1 for the post of Finance Manager.
Within a few days of his joining the company he speeded up the working of his department, although his
predecessor, the Finance Manager working prior to Mr Aggarwal had been more qualified,and,experienced.
Mr Aggarwal faced several problems in the course of his working, but he never felt discouraged but
overcome them with firmness. During this period he got the opportunity of visiting several other companies.
Besides, he participated in several seminars related to the problems of management and learnt the-modern
methods of management. He had a special interest in reading and writing articles on the problems of
management. Because of this reason, there has been a continuous growth in his knowledge and experience
of management. Now, he is working as a successful manager. He has obtained a distinct recognition in the -
field of finance.

Q11: The Top Management of ‘Vrinda Limited’ has done proper arrangement for all the resources of men,
machines, material and money for its business. A special attention has been paid to the running of all the
activities properly. Several competitor companies were using imported modern machines. Influenced by
them, this company also had to install similar machines. The technology of these machines was most
sophisticated. Before the employees could protest against this technology, they were given the training in it.
Hence, they accepted, the installation of these machines happily. Some of the employees understood, this
technology very soon. The company felt happy with their work and rewarded them. Its impact on the other
employees was also positive. The top management had directed all the employees to have free and informal
communication and give suggestions, lodge complaints and even talk about their personal matters.

and execute the policies framed by the first group and act as a link between the first group and the third

Q2. Mrs. Wason passed her MBBS examination and also passed MS examination as an eye specialist. After
2 years of completing her studies she joined a big hospital as an eye surgeon. Now she is performing
successfully since last few years. Mr. Madan founder of CTA feels that Mrs. Wason is experiencing the
aspect of science and Ms. Sachdeva feels that she is experiencing the aspect of Art. Who is right? Give
reasons in support of your answer.

Q3 Shiv Nadar, chairman and CEO of HCL attributes the success of the group to its management team and
their entrepreneurial spirit which together have enabled it to handle rapid changes in the environment and
technologies. At HCL management believes that happy, satisfied and self motivated employees help in
reducing costs and increase productivity. It also has a strong sense of social responsibility and has set up
educational institutions in the field of management, engineering, computers etc.

Q4 Raman agreed to be an employee of a company on the condition that he will be given a project offering
competitive salary, career advancement opportunity, promotion and recognition. Mr. John, (general
manager) puts Raman in a project in which promotion is not possible. Raman gets disheartened and feels
frustrated all the time. Such frustration also reflected in his work and he could not bring desired results.

Q5 Vineet joined a company after completing graduation in management from a reputed business school.
During his induction training, he was informed that he would be working in production department. The
company wanted to achieve 30% increase in output in the next quarter. His general manager, a man with
decades of experience, also said that management is a complex activity. He expected Vineet to make
production plans, identify incentive schemes for workers to make their strengths effective and ensure that
there is no disruption due to technical glitch. Vineet realised very quickly that his job is a series of
continuous tasks. After one month, he was informed by the general manager that due to increase in
international demand, production targets have been raised.

their potential and earn more by working overtime and in multiple shifts. He was delighted that at the end of

Q6 The production manager assigned a target of producing 1,000 TV sets in the month of October among
the group of 10 workers. They mutually decided to produce 100 TV sets each. Among them 3 of the
workers of the group fell sick. The other worker refused to divide his work among and concentrated only on
the production of their own individual target of production the group target of 1,000 TV sets could not be
achieved.

firm are happy and satisfied, and there is orderliness instead of chaos.
