ONE CAMPUS, ONE PARKLAND

ADDRESSING ENROLLMENT & CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE UPGRADES • BUILDING AND GROUNDS • 6 MAY 2024
INITIAL GOAL

Determine a path forward that addresses

capacity issues at our secondary schools. This
process should include maintaining a robust
program of studies, complete with academic,
arts and athletic opportunities while planning
for future educational needs of all students.

After exploring many options, the School District is moving forward with expansion plans at PHS and the administration is
recommending the expansion/renovation of Orefield Middle School which will include infrastructure and safety upgrades, stadium
considerations, and transportation facility upgrades. The entire project, which consists of changes to the PHS and OMS sites, are
anticipated to cost $210M and are to be completed by 2030.

VISION 2030
ONE CAMPUS, ONE PARKLAND
THE RECOMMENDED EXPANSION PLAN

Parkland High School remains as one campus:

Two additions add 28 classroom spaces and 10 science labs, along with other program to support student body growth

Enclosure of the back wings adds two secure outdoor learning quads

Renovations add square footage to cafeteria, nurse’s suite, and administration offices

New hallway connections and staircase will improve traffic flow within the building

This plan aligns with community input favoring one high school

The project is considerably more cost effective than building a 2nd high school which was estimated at $250M

PARKLAND SCHOOL DISTRICT

VISION 2030
ONE CAMPUS, ONE PARKLAND
THE RECOMMENDED EXPANSION PLAN

One Parkland High School :

Keeps academic offerings strong
ARTS ENTRANCE FRONT ENTRANCE
POSSIBLE
ATHLETICS LOBBY
CAFE EXPANSION Staff remains in place
Strong learning supports remain
Builds on positive culture and community
Keeps a robust curriculum in place for all
students to experience
160+ electives, 85 clubs and activities remain
Expansion of science, technology and creative
spaces for PHS students
More spaces for silent study, more
places for socialization

PARKLAND SCHOOL DISTRICT

VISION 2030
ONE CAMPUS, ONE PARKLAND
THE RECOMMENDED EXPANSION PLAN

Critical infrastructure and safety updates are

addressed for the OMS site:
Moves the bus lot and fueling stations away from the
school
Creates a secure bus loop
Addresses the need for sewage upgrades
New addition will house more students
Adds parking, sidewalks, and traffic loops/bus/parent
pick-up areas designed to alleviate congestion and
increase safety
Creates teaching team oriented spaces for middle
school students at OMS
Result is a balanced capacity between the two
Parkland middle schools

MULTIPURPOSE ATHLETICS AND WELLNESS COMPLEX

A multipurpose athletics and wellness complex would be

constructed on the current PHS campus to include:
An 8,500 seating capacity venue that can fit the full staff and student
body for events and emergencies
One turf multipurpose field and one grass pratice field for school and community use
Ample parking for stadium events
Locker rooms and restrooms that comply with ADA and Title IX
Storage for band and athletics
Additional space and fields allow for expanded after school use for
intramurals, arts and other activities (including band practice on a field vs. parking lot)
Serves as a prominent symbol of Parkland Pride, positioned visibly at the entrance of
the PHS campus
Unites football and band with the rest of sports and activities on one campus since
everyone can ready for competition on site at the school
Current stadium and field house is in need of plumbing, roofing,
bleachers, sewage and space upgrades and does not offer adequate
POTENTIAL MULTIPURPOSE storage space
ATHLETICS AND WELLNESS The new location enables District to start with a clean slate and build to suit for growing
COMPLEX
community needs rather than retrofit a site that is currently too small to meet needs

PROJECT STATS

This project upgrades Parkland’s two largest facilities that house 45% of the District’s total student
population and will alleviate enrollment concerns in grades 6-12 across the entire school district

Enrollment growth at SMS, OMS and PHS is expected to increase by 1,400 over the next 10 years

This $210M plan alleviates need to build a new high school and new middle school that was
projected to cost $410M

Parkland’s current 2023-2024 millage rate is the lowest in Lehigh County at 16.30

Seating capacity at the newly proposed athletic/arts complex will be 8,500 and will also serve as
an emergency evacuation site for the District

PHS has approximately 1400 students involved annually in a PIAA sport or Marching Band
