2 COMMUNICATION WORKSHEET Comparing photos

Aims: To practise using functional language for talking Follow-up activity:

Materials: One copy of the worksheet for each group of
three students.
Procedure:
• Put the students in groups of three (A, B and C) and
give each group a copy of the worksheet.
• Remind students of the phrases they learned in the
speaking lesson, shown below:

• Explain that students are going to use the pairs of


pictures in each row for a speaking activity. They
will take turns to say something about the pictures,
according to the rules below.
Row 1 of pictures:
• Student A: Talk about two similarities between the
two pictures.
• Student B: Talk about two differences between them.
• Student C: Speculate about each of the pictures in
the pair.
• Students A, B and C: State your opinions about one
or both of the pictures.
Row 2 of pictures:
• Student A takes the role of Student B, Student B
takes role of Student C and Student C takes the role
of Student A.
Row 3 of pictures:
• Student A takes role of Student C, Student B takes
the role of Student A and Student C takes the role of
Student B.
• When all the groups have finished, invite them to say
which of the pairs of pictures were the easiest to talk
about and which were the most difficult, giving their
reasons.
