MODEL : AL-100R, AL-150R

SUBJECT : Diagnostic Program (Revised on 9th February 2004)

There is a diagnostic program function on AL-100R and AL-150R as follows.


1. Initial Setup
a. Connect an AC cord.
b. Connect a Pedal cord.
c. “Main” volume: MAX
d. “Accomp” volume: MAX
e. Insert a formatted floppy disk
f. Connect a MIDI cable (In-Out).
Note: If there is no MIDI cable, MIDI check can be skipped.

2. System Reset (CAUTION: Performing System Reset clears all memory data)
a. Press the “TRANSPOSE/FUNCTION” button. R “TRANSPOSE” is displayed in DP1.
b. Press the “MAIN MENU” button 11 times. R “Initializa” is displayed in DP1.
“Group B” is displayed in DP2.
c. Press the “SUB MENU” button 4 times. R “All” is displayed in DP2.
d. Press the “EXECUTE” button. R “Sure?” is displayed in DP1.
“Init All” is displayed in DP2.
e. Press the “m/YES” button. R Make sure that the initial screen is displayed after
System Reset.
Note: The “System Reset” is necessary to perform this diagnostic program.

3. How to start diagnostic program


a. While keeping both “EXIT” and “MAIN MENU” buttons depressed, press "POWER" switch.
b. Confirm lighting “POWER LED”, “FDD LED” and “Test1” message on top of LCD.
c . If everything is OK, release “EXIT” and “MAIN MENU” buttons.
d. Confirm that “Test1” appears on the LCD.
e. As for the details of each diagnostic procedure, refer to the attached sheets.
NOTE: Refer to the figure below for the LCD messages that appear during the diagnostic program.

Message on LCD
1. RAM check
1 Press "POPS I" button to enter "RAM check". DP1: RAM Test
DP2: OK

2. ROM check
1 Press "POPS II" button to enter "ROM check". DP1: ROM Test
* OK appears after about 6 seconds. DP2: 00

3. Console check
1 Press "BALLAD" button to enter "Console check". DP1: Console SW
*Confirmation sound sounds. DP2: Console
2 Press buttons in the order from No.1 to No.86. DP2: BUTTON NO.
Press the DEMO button the last.
* Confirmation sound sounds.
* The Button number appears on the LCD (DP2). DP2: BUTTON NO.
* A buzzer sounds if buttons are pressed in a wrong order, and "CER" appears on LCD (DP2). DP2: CER
NOTE: This check cannot be aborted in mid-course.

4. Slider check
1 Press the "ROCK" button to enter "Slider check". DP1: Slider
2 Turn the "ACCOMP" volume to "MIN". DP2: 000
3 Turn the "ACCOMP" volume to "MAX". DP2: 127

5. Pedal check
1 Press "BALLAD" button to enter "Pedal check". DP1: Key/Pedal
2 Press the "DAMPER" PEDAL. DP2: SUS
3 Press the "SOSTENUTE" PEDAL. DP2: SoS
4 Press the "SOFT" PEDAL. DP2: Sft

6. MIDI/HOST check (If there is no MIDI cable and no HOST check connector*) , these checks can be skipped)
1 Press "JAZZ" button to enter "MIDI/HOST check". DP1: MIDI Test
DP2: OK
2 Press the "COMPUTER" select. (* Position of HOST SW is at PC-1.)
3 Press the "JAZZ" button. DP1: Host PC98
DP2: OK
4 Press the "COMPUTER" select. (* Position of HOST SW is at PC-2.)
5 Press the "JAZZ" button. DP1: Host DOSV
DP2: OK
*) HOST check connector: short 2-3 pin of the connector with 1K ohm resistor.

7. LCD check
1 Press the "DANCE" button to enter "LCD check". DP1: LCD Test
2 Press the "EXECUTE" button.
* Test pattern 1 appears on the LCD, as well as there is no lacking dot.
3 Press the "EXECUTE" button.
* Test pattern 2 appears on the LCD, as well as there is no lacking dot.
4 Press the "EXECUTE" button.
* Test pattern 3 appears on the LCD, as well as there is no lacking dot.
5 Press the "EXECUTE" button.
* Test pattern 4 appears on the LCD, as well as there is no lacking dot.
6 Press the "EXECUTE" button.
* Test pattern 5 appears on the LCD, as well as there is no lacking dot.
7 Press the "EXIT" button. DP1: Test1

8. LED check
1 Press the "JAZZ" button to enter "LED check". DP1: LED TEST
* ALL LEDs are lit.

9. KEY LED check


1 Press the "LATIN" button to enter "KEY LED check". DP1: KeyLight
* Key LEDs are lit according to the following orders.Make sure there is no big difference in
the brightness of neighboring key LEDs.
1) A0#~D4#, 2) F4#~A7#, 3) A0~C3, 4) D3~G5, 5) A5~C8, 6) A0#~D4#, 7) A4#~D7#,
8) A0~C3, 9) D3~G5, 10) A5~C8

10. FDD check


1 Press the "CLASSIC" button to enter "FDD check". DP1: FDD Full
DP2: OK

11. SOUND check


1 Press the "GRAND PIANO" button to enter "SOUND check". DP1: sound MIN
* When standing in the center, the judge hears the minimum test sound in an equal volume
from both right and left speakers.
2 Press the "PIANO" button. DP1: sound MID
* When standing in the center, the judge hears the medium test sound in an equal volume
from both right and left speakers.
3 Press the "GUITAR" button. DP1: sound MAX
* When standing in the center, the judge hears the maximum test sound in an equal vol-
ume from both right and left speakers.
4 Press the "ORGAN" button. DP1: sound L
* When standing in the center, the judge hears the maximum test sound fromthe left speaker.
5 Press the "ENSEMBLE/SYNTH" button. DP1: sound R
* When standing in the center, the judge hears the maximum test sound from the right speaker.

12. Check finsh


1 Press the "POWER" button.
* POWER LED is turned off.
* LCD and the backlight are turned off.

13. System Reset


Perform System Reset after completion of diagnostic program.
