CAB OUTREACH REPORT (July-Oct)
Mandela Day is a global call to action that celebrates the idea that each individual
has the power to transform the world, the ability to make an impact. The Mandela
Day campaign message is: "Nelson Mandela has fought for social justice for 67
years. We're asking you to start with 67 minutes." In celebration of Mandela day,
CAB identified and spent their 76 minutes with one of the families in Newclare. The
family of 19 members residing in an RDP house and depends on one person, a
pensioner. The family has adopted one abandoned child who turned 15 years. CAB
donated some clothing, groceries (food) and toiletries. CAB also provided education
about HIV/AIDS, the importance of accessing health care service, hygiene,
substance abuse and its negative impacts.

This event was organised by the Cervical Department and services provided
includes HIV testing and counselling, blood sugar, blood pressure, breast exam, pap
smear screening, and blood type tests. CAB mobilised the Helen Joseph Community
to access services. Mobilised of community members took place within the Hospital
and in all out-patient clinics. CAB had their own stall and provided education about
clinical trials, education on Kaposi sarcoma and handed members with pamphlets.

CAB MEMBERS
CAB took part in the Wellness event organised by Acts of Love. This event engaged
different stakeholders to come together and provide health care services. The
objective of this event was to provide free medical healthcare to those individuals
who have no or limited access to it. The outreach took place in an area of Diesploot
with predominantly informal settlements and with one of the highest unemployment
figures in the community.
Services included eyes tests, dental screening (Wits Community Dentistry), HIV
testing and counselling, TB screening, blood pressure and glucose screening by
Witkoppen Health and Welfare Centre, cholesterol screening (on a referral basis)
other services
CAB took part in mobilising of the community and provided HIV and TB screening.
They also educated the community about Kaposi sarcoma since it is not known
much and provided them with pamphlets.

This event was organised by The Rotary organisation and invited different
stakeholders to provide their services including CAB. This event took place in two
areas, namely Baragwanath taxi Rank and Maponya Mall (All in Soweto).
Stakeholders provided services were the department of health, New Start, PUSH,
Male Medical Team – provided education. The services provided for the day includes
HIV testing, BP and Diabetic tests, polio vaccines, education about Pap-smear and
referrals.
CAB had an opportunity to have 2 stalls in both areas (Bara and Maponya mall).
They mobilised the community to access services, provided education about clinical
trial, education on Kaposi Sarcoma and handed out pamphlets.
