Strand 2.6: Identifying Emerging Opportunities and
Challenges
SESSION OBJECTIVES:
 Identify emerging opportunities and challenges in addressing the needs of
learners, school personnel and other stakeholders.
 Discuss how to utilize the identified emerging challenges and
opportunities to address needs of learners, school personnel and other
stakeholders and improve the school performance level.
 Consciously develop a proactive way of thinking in seeking for
opportunities in challenging situations to improve self and others by
keeping a daily reflection journal to record one’s efforts and successes.

Actionable Strategies using TOWS
Main purpose of TOWS analysis is to develop four groups of different
strategies:
a. Strengths–Opportunities - use internal strengths to take
advantage of opportunities
b. Strengths-Threats - use strengths to minimize threats
c. Weaknesses-Opportunities - improve weaknesses by taking
advantage of opportunities
d. Weaknesses-Threats - work to eliminate weaknesses to
avoid threats.
