Sound:

● Sound is a form of energy.

When a body vibrates, it forces the neighbouring particles of the medium to vibrate. This causes
a disturbance in the medium, which travels through waves. This disturbance when it reaches the
ear, produces sound.

Que: What is noise?


Sounds that are unpleasing and disturbing to the ears are called noise.

Que: Give examples of pleasant and unpleasant sounds.

Pleasant sounds:
The chirping of a bird, the sound of a piano, melodious music etc
Unpleasant sounds: noise made by the drilling machine, bursting of firecrackers, horns of
vehicles etc.

Living near the airport causes noise pollution. The noise from aeroplanes can disrupt sleep,
increase stress levels and lead to hearing loss.
