This study seeks to determine the social and cultural contexts of nipa palm
alcohol production and consumption in selected communities in the Caraga Region,
Philippines. Specifically, the study focuses on the following questions:
1. What are the origins and changes in the production of nipa palm alcohol in the
area?

III. THEORETICAL/CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK
This section will discuss various concepts and theories in Ecological
Anthropology and Economic Anthropology relevant to the present study. These include
discussions on the following concepts: (a) cultural ecology; (b) environment, economy,
and globalization; and (c) local and indigenous knowledge.
