Over here I have a picture of a Basil plant, it may not

seem that important, but it really is. This plant holds the
ashes of my grandfather. But how you may be
wondering, why and how is it in a basil plant? In my
culture when your family members die you cremate
them and keep their ashes in a container. Then you put
it in a pot cover it with dirt and add some basil seeds
and grow it. We do this as the basil plant is holy in my
culture and we put the ashes to show that we care a lot
for the person who died by keeping it holy.
Basil plant was planted on the 28th of July 2019 and was
both planted by my mum, uncle and grandma. The plant
was created in my mother’s home in Bangladesh on the
top floor of their house where the keep all their plants,
after they cremated my grandfather’s body in
Bangladesh.
The significance of this plant is that it still has the soul
of my grandfather kept in the basil plant even after his
passing. It means a lot to us as this indicates if my
grandfather will go to heaven or not. We keep this basil
plant back in my parents’ home country Bangladesh in
my mother's home as it was her father who died. Thank
you for listening.
