03 A linear equation in two variables has only 1 solution.

1M

A True B False

Solution :
A linear equation in two variables has infinite solutions. This is because a linear equation represents a line and solution of a linear
equation represents a point on that line. Since a line is made up of infinite points, a linear equation has infinite solutions.

04 Draw the frequency polygon representing the following frequency distribution.

Class interval 30 − 34 35 − 39 40 − 44 45 − 49 50 − 54 55 − 59

F requency 12 16 20 8 10 4

5M

Solution :
Tabular form: 1 Mark
Graph: 3 Marks

Though the given frequency table is in inclusive form, yet we find that class marks in case of inclusive and exclusive forms are the
same.

We take the imagined classes 25 - 29 at the beginning and 60 - 64 at the end, each with frequency zero.

Thus, we have:

Class interval Class mark F requency

25 − 29 27 0

30 − 34 32 12

35 − 39 37 16

40 − 44 42 20

45 − 49 47 8

50 − 54 52 10

55 − 59 57 4

60 − 64 62 0

Along the x - axis, we mark 27, 32, 37, 42, 47, 52, 57 and 62 on a suitable scale.

Along the y - axis, we mark 0, 12, 16, 20, 8, 10, 4 and 0 on a suitable scale.

Plot the points A(27,0), B(32, 12), C(37, 16), D(42, 20), E(47, 8), F(52, 10), G(57, 4) and H(62, 0).

We draw line segments AB, BC, CD, DE, EF, FG and GH to obtain the required frequency polygon, shown below.
05 If x = 0.18, which of the following statements are true?

(i) 100x = 18.18 ¯

¯¯¯
¯¯

(ii) 100x − x = 17.18 ¯

¯¯¯
¯¯

(iii) 99x = 18

1M

A (i) only B (i) and (iii)

C (ii) only D (i) and (ii)

Solution :
The correct option is (B) (i) and (iii) only.

Solution:

The simplest way of representing a simple fraction is by eliminating the recurring decimal. This can be done by a multiplying factor
which can be 10 or 100 or any other number depending on the number of recurring digits.
¯
¯
x = 0.18
¯¯
¯¯
....(I)
100x = 18.18
¯
¯¯¯
(multiplied by 100 because there are only two repeating digits)
¯¯
….(II)
Subtracting (I) from (II),
99x = 18

Hence, the correct combinations are (i) and (iii).

06 The following 2 bar graphs shows the details of price distribution of making a car.One shows the amounts (in million Rs.) invested
by a Lamborgini in purchasing raw materials for the production of a car over the years and the other shows the values (in million
Rs.) of finished car sold by the Company over the years.

i)The difference between the amount invested in Raw materials and value of sales of finished car was maximum during which year?
ii) The value of sales of finished goods in 2009 was approximately what percent of the sum of amount invested in Raw materials in
the years 2007, 2008 and 2009?
1M

A 2006, 51.65 B 2007, 48.78

C 2008, 45.33 D 2009, 42.56

Solution :
i) Total difference between the amount invested in Raw materials and value of sales of finished car in 2005= 200-145 = 55 million
Total difference between the amount invested in Raw materials and value of sales of finished car in 2006= 300-250 = 50 million
Total difference between the amount invested in Raw materials and value of sales of finished car in 2007= 500-375 = 125 million
Total difference between the amount invested in Raw materials and value of sales of finished car in 2008= 400-330 = 70 million
Total difference between the amount invested in Raw materials and value of sales of finished car in 2009= 600-525 = 75 million
Total difference between the amount invested in Raw materials and value of sales of finished car in 2010= 460-420 = 40 million
Highest among this is for 2007.
ii) The value of sales of finished goods in 2009 = 600 million – (1)
The sum of amount invested in Raw materials in the years 2007, 2008 and 2009= (375+330+525) = 1230 million – (2)
Percentage ratio of (1):(2) =600

Solution :
Solution:

Draw PFQ∥AB∥CD.
Now, PFQ∥AB and EF is the transversal.
Then,
∠AEF+∠EFP=180°.....(1)

Also, PFQ∥CD.
Angles on the same side of a transversal line are supplementary
∠PFG=∠FGD=r°(Alternate Angles)

putting the value of ∠EFP from eqn. (i)we get,
p°+q°-r°=180°
⇒p+q-r=180

12 Three different triangular plots are available for same price in a locality. Each plot has a perimeter of 𝟏𝟐𝟎 𝑚. Help the buyer to
decide among these plots which will be more spacious. The side lengths are given in the following table.

Shape of Plot Length of sides

Right triangle 30 m, 40 m, 50 m

Equilateral triangle 40 m, 40 m, 40 m

Acute triangle 35 m, 40 m, 45 m

5M

Solution :
Let's find the semi perimeter of the all triangles.
For Right triangle, s = = 60 m
30+40+50

For Equilateral triangle, s = = 60 m

40+40+40

For Acute triangle, s = = 60 m

35+40+45

Note that all the semi-perimeters are equal.

We know that, area of a triangle = √(s(s − a)(s − b)(s − c)

Let's find the area of the all triangles by using this formula.
Area of right triangle = √(60(60 − 30)(60 − 40)(60 − 50) = 600 m 2

Area of equilateral triangle = √(60(60 − 40)(60 − 40)(60 − 40) = 400√3 m = 692 m2 2

Area of acute triangle = √(60(60 − 35)(60 − 40)(60 − 45) = 670.82 m 2

We find that though the perimeters are same, the areas of the three triangular plots are different.
Area of equilateral triangle is more among these; the buyer can be suggested to choose this since it is more spacious.

13 If ABC is an isosceles triangle in which AC = BC, AD and BE are respectively two altitudes to sides BC and AC, then prove that AE
= BD.
[3 marks]

2M
Solution :
In ΔABC, AC = BC [given]
∠ABC = ∠CAB

[angles opposite to equal sides are equal]

[1 Mark]
ie., ∠ABD = ∠EAB . . . (i)

In ΔAEB and ΔBDA,

∠AEB = ∠ADB = 90 [given, AD ⊥ BC and BE ⊥ AC]

∠EAB = ∠ABD [f rom Eq. (i)]

and AB = AB [common side]

∴ ΔAEB ≅ ΔBDA [by AAS congruence rule]

⇒ AE = BD [by CP CT ]
