The Fox and the Crow

A Fox once saw a Crow with a piece of cheese in its beak on a branch of a tree.
“This cheese is for me,” said the Fox, and he walked up to the tree.
“Good day, Mistress Crow,” he cried. “How well you are looking today: your
feathers are beautiful; your eyes are bright and your figure is nice. I am sure that
your voice must be better than the voices of all other birds. Let me hear one song
from you. I think I’ll greet you as the Queen of Birds.”
The Crow lifted up its head and began to sing its best song. But the moment it
opened its mouth the piece of cheese fell to the ground. The Fox caught the cheese.
“That will do,” said the Fox. “That was all I wanted. In exchange for your
cheese I will give you a piece of advice for the future: “Do not trust flatterers.”
