II. Activities
News report are found in the newspaper and their purpose is to
inform readers of what is to happening in the world around them.

This structure is sometimes called the Inverted Pyramid.

News Reports begin with a catchy HEADLINE.


A headline is the main title of a newspaper story usually printed in large
letter at the top of a story.

The LEAD informs the reader of the most important aspects of the story.
It contains the 5Ws and H. WHO (persons involved), WHAT (took place),
WHEN (did it take place), WHERE (did it take place), WHY (did it happen)
and HOW (did it happen).

Secondary Lead is usually only a picture and headline, it gives a sneak


preview of a story that you might find inside the paper.

BYLINE shows who wrote the story.

The BODY of the News Report gives more details and provides more
information about the WHY and HOW of the story.

The ENDING gives something to think about.

The heavy rains dumped the by the typhoon “Winnie” caused the
landslides and flashfloods. At least 600 people died and some were
still missing. This happened in the three towns of Real, Infanta and
Aurora of Quezon province. The worst hit was Real. Houses in the
different barangays were buried by logs and earth from the
mountains.

Just went typhoon Winnie left the country, typhoon “Yoyong’


roaring toward Luzon with much greater speed. The country was
advised to be careful and ready for any untoward incident. Classes,
as well as government offices, were suspended throughout the
country. Residents in typhoon danger zones were evacuated to
safer grounds. The public was advised to stock food, water, clothing
and medicines.With these precautions there was less disaster than
that of typhoon Winnie.

brought by the COVID-19. The health workers and
men in uniform where the first group of people to
receive the free COVID-19 vaccine. About 25% of the
Negros Oriental front liners have already received it.
Vaccination of the business sectors, senior citizens,
teachers, Barangay Officials and all Filipino citizens
will follow as soon as the vaccine is available. ―For
the moment, what we need is the cooperation of the
community to strictly follow health protocols set by the
IATF to combat this enemy that cannot be seen‖, Dr.
Liland Estacion said.
