Turkey is uniquely positioned to play a mediator role in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict due to its

relationships with both Hamas and Israel. As one of the few countries that maintains contact with
both sides, Turkey has an advantage in influencing the parties and encouraging them to participate in
negotiations.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has expressed Turkey's desire to mediate the conflict,
stating "We are seeking possible ways to mediate. We expect to put an end to this war as soon as
possible, restoring peace in the region." Turkey has experience as a mediator, having helped host
talks between Russia and Ukraine.
Turkey's ties to Hamas give it a crucial channel of communication with the group that has ruled Gaza
since 2007. At the same time, Turkey has had relations with Israel for much of its history, allowing it
to engage with Israel from a position of experience and understanding.
However, Turkey's mediation efforts are contingent on meaningful engagement from both Israel and
Hamas. The willingness of Israel, with support from the U.S. and Europe, to participate in the
process will be key to success.
Domestically, there is significant public support in Turkey for the Palestinian cause, with large-scale
pro-Palestine demonstrations drawing thousands of Turks. Erdogan remains popular in Gaza, the
West Bank and across much of the Arab world due to his history of using harsh rhetoric against
Israel's policies towards Palestinians.
In conclusion, Turkey's unique position, historical ties, and diplomatic efforts make it a potential
mediator in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Whether Turkey can succeed in facilitating lasting peace
will depend on the willingness of all parties to engage in meaningful dialogue and compromise.
