2.2.2 Pumps shall be specially suitable for sewage having cast iron casing and impeller
complete with guide rails, lifting chains, flanges, check valves, gate valves, and electric
cable.

2.3 Control Panel and Float Switches

2.3.1 The automatic electric control panel shall be of steel construction with hinged door and
lock. The panel enclosure shall be dust and weather proof suitable for outdoor mounting.

2.3.2 The panel shall house the automatic controls and starting equipment for the two pumps to
operate as duplex and one pump stand-by. Panel shall also include one single phase
receptacle, one three-phase receptacle, fuse box, main switch, main fuses, automatic
alternator, two hour-meters , two signal lamps, one alarm lamp, two push buttons,
terminals for four float switches and weather proof cable duct.

2.3.3 Float switches shall be of the rubber molded type. The body and the cable shall be
molded together and sealed. The inside switch shall be of the mercury type.

2.4 Accessories for Sewage Pumping Stations

2.4.1 Sluice Gates

2.4.1.1 Sluice gates shall conform to the AWWA Standard for Sluice Gates (C501-67) and as
supplemented hereinafter.

2.4.1.2 Sluice gates shall be cast iron, fully bronze-mounted with side wedges for seating head
conditions where necessary and bottom and top wedges for unseating head conditions.
Machined surfaces shall be finished to exact dimensions. Disks and frames shall have
machined dovetail grooves into which the bronze seat facings shall be driven and securely
fastened. Reinforcing ribs shall be cast opposite the grooves in the disk. All holes for bolts
and studs shall be drilled. Frames shall be of the flat or flange frame type as indicated on
the drawings, having the rear face machined and drilled for bolting directly to cast-iron wall
thimbles set flush with the concrete wall castings.

2.4.1.3 Wall thimbles shall be furnished for all sluice gates and for future installation of sluice
gates as indicated, Wall thimbles shall be of the section and depth indicated on the
drawings and shall be made of one piece cast-iron constructin of adequate thickness to
withstand the stress of operation and installation. A center ring or water stop shall be cast
around the periphery of the wall thimbles, Front flanges shall be machined and shall be
provided with drilled and/or tapped holes for installation of bolts or studs as necessary.

2.4.1.4 Large rectangular thimbles shall be provided with holes in the invert to allow satisfactory
concrete placement beneath the thimble.

2.4.1.5 Self contained sluice gates shall be non-rising stem gates equipped with suitable cast iron
yoke adequately designed to support the load resulting from operating the gate. The yoke
shall have an integrally cast boss centrally located and accurately machined to hold the
stem in aligment. It shall be fitted with a removable bronze stem thrust cap securely bolted
to yoke. Disks shall have a pocket to hold a square bronze thrust nut.

2.4.1.6 The self contained sluice gate shall be equipped with a suitable cast-iron yoke mounted
on the upper ends of the guides and adequately designed to support the load resulting
from the operator and operating the gate.

2.4.1.7 Flush bottom gates shall have a compressible resilient bottom seal.

2.4.1.8 The entire stem including extension stem, if any, of the sluice gates shall be of rolled
Tobin bronze with a tensile strength of not less than 6000 psi (413.8 Mpa) or a stainless
steel of 11.5 to 13 % chromium content.

2.4.1.9 Stems shall be designed to transmit at least 2-½ times the rated output of the floor stand
in compression.

2.4.1.10 The sections of extension stems shall be joined together by solid, manganese-bronze, or
stainless steel couplings, and threaded and keyed to the stems. All couplings of the same
size shall be interchangeable. Stems shall be furnished with adjustable, bronze-bushed,
stem guides, spaced as necessary or as indicated on the drawings. Guides shall be
supported by cast-iron brackets bolted to the concrete.

2.4.1.11 Operators of the type indicated on the drawings and hereinafter shall be provided with
each sluice gate.

2.4.2 Floor-stands

2.4.2.1 Floor-stands shall be crank operated as indicated on the drawings or as required to suit
the application.

2.4.2.2 Crank-operated type will have either single or double gear reduction depending upon the
lifting capacity required and shall be provided with a threaded cast bronze lift nut to
engage the operating stem. Tapered roller bearings shall be provided above and below a
flange on the operating nut to support both opening and closing thrusts.

2.4.2.3 Floorstands shall develop their maximum capacity with not greater than 18 Kg. pull on the
crank.

2.4.2.4 Gears, where required, shall be steel with machined out teeth designed for smooth
operation. The pinion shafts on crank-operated floorstands, either single or double ratio,
shall be supported on tapered roller bearings, or other approved bearings. All components
shall be totally enclosed in a cast-iron case and cover. Positive mechanical seals will be
provided on the operating nut and the pinion shafts to exclude moisture and dirt and
prevent leakage of lubricant out of the hoist. Lubricating fittings shall be provided for the
lubrication of all gears and bearings.

2.4.2.5 Floorstands shall include a cast-iron pedestal with the input shaft or handwheel
approximately 900 mm above the operating floor. An arrow with the word OPEN shall be
cast on the floorstand indicating the direction of rotation to open.

2.4.2.6 Floorstands for rising stem sluice gates shall have clear, transparent, rigid plastic stem
covers.

2.4.2.7 The cranks on crank operated floorstands shall be removable.

2.4.2.8 Floorstands shall be provided by the valve or gate manufacturer with each valve or gate
requiring floorstands.

2.4.2.9 Where the operating floor is located above the self-contained sluice gate, an extension
stem coupled to the operating stem shall be provided with a 50 mm. square operating nut;
terminating in a cast iron floor box. Operation shall be by a T-Handled wrench.

2.4.3 T-Handle Operating Wrenches

2.4.3.1 T-Handle operating wrenches shall be provided in the number and lengths necessary to
permit operation of all valves by operators of average height working in normal positions.

Floor-stands
2.4.2
Floor-stands shall be crank operated as indicated on the drawings or as required to suit

I. Application and Property Standard
The resilient gate valves covered in this document are designed, manufactured and tested
in accordance with the standard of AWWA C515, for the application in the field of potable
water, water distribution service & feed lines, sewage disposal, irrigation, and fire
protection systems, for delivery of medium including water and other medium with
working temperature between 0℃ and 80℃.
It serves to cut off the medium flow in the piping system, with good sealing property. The
valve is not designed to serve as adjusting valve.

II. Structure Design & Working Principle


The valve is constructed with wedge gate design and bolted valve gland and bonnet.

Working principle:
The rotation of the hand wheel drives the stem to open or close the gate to cut off or
allows the medium flow in the piping system. The fully EPDM encapsulated wedge gate
guarantees the well sealing of the valve, making it suitable to be widely applied in
different industries.

IV. Storage, Installation & Maintenance


a) The valve is to be stored in dry cool conditions in the warehouses with good ventilation.
The gate is not to be tightly closed when not under working conditions. The ends of the
valves are to be properly protected with caps to protect the wedge sealing surface from
the intrusion of dirt and other foreign stuff.
b) Valves should be checked regularly when storage for long time.
c) Check the marking and the qualifications before installation of the valve.
d) The valve is designed to work only fully open or closed. It’s not allowed to have it for
service as adjusting valves.
e) When there is failure or mal‐function detected, should shut down the service valves
nearby for checking of the gate valve immediately.
