In any structure whose material is elastic and obeys Hook’s Law and
in which supports are unyielding and the temperature remains
unchanged, the deflection of any point 1 in a direction ab due to a
load W acting at a point 2 in a direction cd is numerically equal to the
deflection at point 2 in the direction cd due to a load W acting at a
point 1 in the direction ab.
