CHAPTER 1

THE PROBLEM

Introduction

The common problem encountered by sweet pepper (Capsicum annuum)

producers are pest and disease and low soil fertility. Because of this, farmers

experience poverty and the farmers would stop farming and fined job in urban places.

Some of the farmers might even promote their land or farms to those who will convert it

into an industrialized building (Francisco M del Amor ,2010).

Organic fertilizer is essential for the proper development of plant, vegetables,

flowers and fruit, as they offer rapid with growth with superior quality to all species. They

have the nutrients necessary for better development. In addition, the organic matter

serves as nutrients and energy sources for soil microorganism. In order to increase crop

yield production in safely and healthy way. Organic farming, with use of organic sources

of nutrients is proposed as a sustainable strategy for producing safe, healthy and

cheaper food and restoring soil fertility and mitigation climate (Jadish Rimsina 2018).

Organic fertilizer are materials that can be added to soil or plants. In order to provide

nutrients and sustain growth. (Morteza Siavashi, 2011).

One known organic fertilizer is fermented fruit juice that helps capability of

dissolving the chlorophyll in a short period of time to readily absorbed by the plant due

it's natural enzyme. These fermented fertilizers can boost the flowering and fruiting of

our veggies.
Fish amino acids (FAA) is one of the organic preparation which is used for improving

crop growth development (Pry El., 2019).

Also, fish Amino acids is a sticky made from blend of saltwater fish. It contains

about 5% nitrogen. And it has a small but significant amount of trace elements and

plenty of fish oil (Van Haute, 2011).

In this study, it aims to determine in growth and field response of sweet pepper

in terms of height, number of leaves and mass of yield among the treatment namely,

fermented fruit juice fertilizer and fish amino acids.

Statement of the problems

This study will be conducted to determine the effectiveness of fish amino acids

(FAA) and Fermented fruit juice (FFJ) on the growth of sweet pepper (Capsicum

annuum). The researchers seek to answer the following:

1. What is the effects of fish amino acids on the growth and yield sweet pepper?

2. What is the effects of fermented fruit juice on the growth and yield of sweet pepper?

3. What would be the best treatment that could improve the growth and yield of sweet

pepper?

Significance of the study

Applying organic fertilizer like fermented fruit juice (FFJ) and fish amino acids

(FAA) to sweet pepper can be effectively, not only to help the yield and profitability of
sweet pepper but also help regain the fertility of the soil. Using organic liquid fertilizer

exclusively on our farming means we are contributing, in our small way. To the

preservation of nature. Unlike synthetic fertilizer, organic fertilizer is deemed to be

entirely safe for the ecosystem they are used regardless of the quantities in the soil.

Therefore, using an organic liquid fertilizer is a sure way to know that we are safe

from the toxicity came from inorganic fertilizer. This study could be beneficial to farmers

especially those who plant vegetables as their plant vegetables as their income as their

income as it eases pain brought by the increasing cause of commercial fertilizer this

would help them increase the yield quality to help improve the way of living. For the

student researcher of the following years, this would help them to have some ideas for

the study to be conducted which is, as well is beneficial to the current status of our

environment and society.

Scope and limitation of the study

This study will be conducted at crop science experiment area Zamboanga del

Sur Provincial Government College (ZDSPGC), Poblacion, Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur.

This study will be limited on the effectiveness of fish amino acids (FAA) and Fermented

fruit juice (FFJ) on the growth and yield if sweet pepper (Capsicum annuum).
Objectives of the study

The purpose of the study is to determine the effects of fish amino acids and

fermented fruit juice on the growth and yield of sweet pepper. Specially this aims to:

A. Determine the growth and yield of sweet pepper (Capsicum annuum) applied with

Fish amino acids.

B. Determine the growth and yield of sweet pepper (Capsicum annuum) applied with

fermented fruit juice.

C. Determine the significant effects of fish amino and Fermented fruit juice on the

growth and yield of sweet pepper (Capsicum annuum).

Definition of Terms

To provide the reader with better understanding of study. The following terms are

defined;

Crude sugar. As used in this study, it refers to the brown granuled sugar produced from

sugar produced from sugar mills is not refined and sometimes called raw sugar.

Fermentation. As used in this study. it refers to the conversion of carbon moderate

amount of plant essential. Fermented plant juice- is a liquid fertilizer made from local

plant and brown sugar.

Fish amino acids. As used in this study, is a liquid fertilizer made from fish scrap.

Organic fertilizer. As used in this study, It refers to available mineral sources that

contain moderate amount of plant essential.

Replication. As use in this study, it is repetition of treatment in their experiment

research.

Sweet pepper. As used in this study, refers to a range of pepper varieties with mild

heat and fruity or sweet flavor including Bell pepper, banana pepper and pimentos.

Treatment. As used in this study, prevents the progression and recurrence of the

disease.

Yield. As used in this study, produce a natural Agricultural, industrial product.
