Dear 99146758X,

Following our recent interview with you we have decided to offer your company the contract to
design our new release of patio/balcony furniture. As you would recall, we are in need of a
product that will fill a noticeable void in our product range. We are a company that prides
ourselves on quality products at an affordable price and we have been successful in doing so.
Our research has however, indicated that our patio and balcony range of furniture is not satisfying
the growing number of apartment dwellers. Too often we see that the traditional Victorian styled
2-person, iron cast table and chairs are occupying most outdoor spaces. We require you to
design an alternative to this traditional product that will be attractive to that market. It must fit in
with our plan to be seen as cutting edge and innovative in this field.

Our purpose is, obviously, to attract the apartment dweller market so that they may be inclined to
purchase more of our coordinated range of home furnishings. We also need to remain at the
forefront of contemporary design and as such your product should satisfy our audience’s desire to
be individual whilst purchasing a product that is affordable.

The audience that we wish to attract is generally the inner-city investor, owner or lessee of a
compact apartment. This group is generally in their mid-20’s to 30’s single or married
professionals, highly educated and financially comfortable and very social. Those who are single
do not fall, significantly, into any gender group yet our stores notice that females make most
furnishing decisions. It should also be noted that this audience has a special interest in
contemporary design and they demonstrate some knowledge about the materials and processes
used in construction. As this group is an outgoing one, they are looking for a low maintenance
product.

It is our recommendation that you prepare, for us, a design for a 2-4 seat table and chairs that
can be cushioned or not as you see fit. The unit should, of course be weatherproof and be able to
be retailed for around $400.

We would appreciate you submitting your final designs by May 25 th 2000. Whilst we only require a
3- dimensional coloured representation of the product our manufactures will need an indication of
the overall dimensions of the product, the materials to be used in construction and any other
design considerations that will be used to enhance the structure of the unit.

It is indeed a pleasure to offer you this contract and we look forward to viewing your presentation
on the 25th.
