1. Role and importance of a planner in a Mega Construction Projects, and their

impact especially in planning, monitoring, and controlling project schedule.

A project construction planner assures that Mega Projects are completed on

time and within budget, ensure safety among workers and meet the quality standards

required. Planners are responsible for the preparation of programs that satisfies the

needs of the owner with utmost accuracy. Effective planning leads to smooth flow of

the implementation of the projects, this means that conflicts, delays, accidents,

incidents and cost overruns will be minimized all throughout. The significance of

planner to the different phases of the project includes:

 Planning

Planning is the foundation of the project implementation. An effective plan

corresponds to a better construction output. Planners are involved in the

preparation of programmes for design, procurement, construction, installation,

and commissioning activities for each project from tender through to completion.

This programmes include the estimation of construction durations and

schedules of each project activities involved in the project scope. Planners also

provide clarity on key milestones to define what, when, and how activities will

be organized to ensure the outcomes across the programme to be achieved

with the resources available.

 Monitoring

In monitoring, a planner is responsible to oversee logistics, deploy workers,

manage budgets and ensure that work is on schedule. Constructions delays

will be minimized during the implementation of projects when a good planner

supervises the work thru monitoring the progress of the project and making

necessary adjustments. Its impact on monitoring is that planner can oversee

potential risks that could make changes to the original scheduling of project

activities.

 Controlling

As planners monitor the progress of the project, they are also responsible for

the identification of variances and implementing corrective action if needed.

Thus, planners ensures that the project is on the right track and so as to its

successful completion.

2. What is the importance and benefits of project time management in relation

to other constraints, the cost and quality.

A project is often defined as successful if the project’s objectives are achieved

by the deadline and completed within budget. Apart from time, project time

management have significant impacts that benefit the other constraints of a

construction projects. These projects constraints include:

 Cost

Efficient time management can have a significant impact on the construction

cost. By minimizing wasted time and enhancing productivity through effective

project schedule, contractors can achieve more with less, effectively reducing

operational costs. Project activity delays can further lead to late completion of

the contract which incurs liquidated damages that should be settled by the

contractors so an effective time management helps to control and mitigate this

kind of activity delays.

 Time

Project time management has direct impact on time duration especially on

minimizing delays and preventing frequent and common risks encountered on

the implementation of project. Through this, the completion of the project will

be ahead of the contract expiration date.

 Scope

The project scope refers to all of the work to be performed in a project. Failing

to keep track of time could result in missed deadlines and reduced project

scope. Unrealistic activity schedules and lack of flexibility could end up

changing or reducing project scope. The term is called scope creep.

 Resources

Delays and other time deficiencies directly influences funds which is a kind of

resources that a construction firm possesses. Waste in time means waste of

funds.

 Risk

Time shifts from the original project activity schedules may result to an increase

in the probability of risk to occur. Recognizing the potential risks associated with

time shifts is very important and effective strategies must be implemented to

mitigate and control their severity for the completion success of the project.

 Quality

Project time management can impact the quality of the project result. Poor

prioritization of tasks and time allocation can result in rushed work, which is

more prone to errors than systematic and thought-out activities. This errors

mostly affects the quality of the project.
