IOT based Smart Home using cisco Packet Tracer

Aim:
Design of IOT based Smart Home using cisco Packet Tracer

Theory:
The Internet of Things (IoT) facilitates the interconnection of devices, enabling them to communicate
and collaborate over the internet. In the context of a smart home, IoT devices such as sensors and
actuators play pivotal roles in automation and monitoring tasks. Cisco Packet Tracer serves as a
simulation tool for modeling and configuring network topologies, making it suitable for designing
IoT-based systems. Through the integration of sensors, actuators, and IoT devices, a smart home
environment can be created to automate tasks like environmental monitoring, security, and energy
management.

Cisco Packet Tracer serves as a simulation tool for designing and configuring network topologies,
making it an ideal platform for modeling IoT-based systems. Components such as sensors, actuators,
and IoT devices are integral to Smart Home setups. These components, when interconnected, enable
tasks like environmental monitoring, security, and energy management. Cisco Packet Tracer
facilitates the virtual representation of these components, aiding in their configuration and integration
into a cohesive system.

Procedure:
1. Download packet tracer.
2. From end devices select home and add iot devices like fan, lamp, window, carbon monoxide
detector and siren.
3. From smart city add an old car and a smartphone from end devices.
4. From network devices, select wireless devices and pick home gateway and place it with other
iot devices.
5. Connect all the devices with the home gateway through wireless connection except for the old
car.
6. Open smart phone and open desktop and go to iot monitor. You’d see all the connected
devices. Go to conditions and make the required conditions.
7. Switch on the car and siren, if the CO level exceeds the one mentioned in condition the siren
should go on and CO detector should light up.
Inference:
The successful design and simulation of an IoT-based smart home using Cisco Packet Tracer confirm the
viability of deploying such systems. Participants gain practical insights into network design, IoT device
configuration, and automation programming. This hands-on experience enhances their understanding of IoT
technologies and their real-world applications.

Result:
A fully operational smart home system is designed and simulated within Cisco Packet Tracer. The system
showcases efficient communication between IoT devices, automation capabilities triggered by predefined
conditions, and effective monitoring of the smart home environment. Through this experiment, participants
acquire practical skills and knowledge in IoT deployment, network simulation, and automation programming.
