and sampling in soil & rock was carried out using rotary drilling. Borehole in
using rotary drilling method. SPT was carried wherever possible. NX size
core barrel with diamond bit was used to drill in rock. Water was circulated to
ling bit. Ground water table was recorded after 24 hours of completion of
cores were numbered chronologically & preserved in core boxes.

site due to seasonal changes.

The Penetration Test on soil was conducted according to IS: 2131-1981., a split
is driven into the soil by 63.5kg weight falling through 75 ern height. After an
ern, the no. of blows required to drive the sampler an additional 30cm is
known as .on resistance or "N" value. The "N" values are indicative of the relative
SPT spoo was inspected for visual identification of strata as per
polythene bags duly numbered for proper identification.

Observed Standard Penetration Number is usually corrected for Overburden

5.5 IS Code of practice for Design of Raft Foundation:

0-1965 gives the code of Practice for design and construction of Raft
fa The maximum differential settlement should not exceed 40 mm in foundation
I and 25 mm in sandy soil. Maximum settlement should generally be limited to
values: Raft foundation on clay: 65 to 100 mm. Raft foundation on sand: 40 to
ventional method, the allowable bearing pressure is found using the following
formulae:

B*Rwl + 64(100+N2)* D*Rw2

Where, Ql Q2 are allowable soil pressure under raft foundation in Kgjm2. (Using a
three) .

values of Ql and Q2 should be used for design.
