Surrender by your intelligence but don’t surrender your intelligence.” (SP to Bali Mardana, 1974)
Intelligence - buddhi
In BG – 2.39
eñä te 'bhihitä säìkhye, buddhir yoge tv imäà çåëu
buddhyä yukto yayä pärtha, karma-bandhaà prahäsyasi
Thus far I have described this knowledge to you through analytical study. Now listen as I
explain it in terms of working without fruitive results. O son of Påthä, when you act in such
knowledge you can free yourself from the bondage of works.
-----------------------
Bg 2.41
vyavasäyätmikä buddhir, ekeha kuru-nandana
bahu-çäkhä hy anantäç ca, buddhayo 'vyavasäyinäm
Those who are on this path are resolute in purpose, and their aim is one. O beloved child of the
Kurus, the intelligence of those who are irresolute is many-branched.
---------------------------------
Bg 2.52
yadä te moha-kalilaà, buddhir vyatitariñyati
tadä gantäsi nirvedaà, çrotavyasya çrutasya ca
When your intelligence has passed out of the dense forest of delusion, you shall become
indifferent to all that has been heard and all that is to be heard.
----------------------------------
Bg 2.53
çruti-vipratipannä te, yadä sthäsyati niçcalä
samädhäv acalä buddhis, tadä yogam aväpsyasi
When your mind is no longer disturbed by the flowery language of the Vedas, and when it
remains fixed in the trance of self-realization, then you will have attained the divine
consciousness.
-----------------------------------
Bg 2.63 2.62 – dhyayato…..
krodhäd bhavati sammohaù, sammohät småti-vibhramaù
småti-bhraàçäd buddhi-näço, buddhi-näçät praëaçyati
From anger, complete delusion arises, and from delusion bewilderment of memory. When
memory is bewildered, intelligence is lost, and when intelligence is lost one falls down again
into the material pool.
tad asya harati prajïäà, väyur nävam ivämbhasi - As a strong wind sweeps away a boat on the
water, even one of the roaming senses on which the mind focuses can carry away a man's
intelligence. >>> Ref. VedaBase => Bg 2.67

Bg 2.65
prasäde sarva-duùkhänäà, hänir asyopajäyate
prasanna-cetaso hy äçu, buddhiù paryavatiñöhate
For one thus satisfied [in Kåñëa consciousness], the threefold miseries of material existence
exist no longer; in such satisfied consciousness, one's intelligence is soon well established.
---------------------------
Bg 2.66
nästi buddhir ayuktasya, na cäyuktasya bhävanä
na cäbhävayataù çäntir, açäntasya kutaù sukham
One who is not connected with the Supreme [in Kåñëa consciousness] can have neither
transcendental intelligence nor a steady mind, without which there is no possibility of peace.
And how can there be any happiness without peace?
-----------------------
Bg 3.42
indriyäëi paräëy ähur, indriyebhyaù paraà manaù
manasas tu parä buddhir, yo buddheù paratas tu saù
The working senses are superior to dull matter; mind is higher than the senses; intelligence is
still higher than the mind; and he [the soul] is even higher than the intelligence.
---------------------
Bg 5.17
tad-buddhayas tad-ätmänas, tan-niñöhäs tat-paräyaëäù
gacchanty apunar-ävåttià, jïäna-nirdhüta-kalmañäù
When one's intelligence, mind, faith and refuge are all fixed in the Supreme, then one becomes
fully cleansed of misgivings through complete knowledge and thus proceeds straight on the
path of liberation.

ye hi saàsparça-jä bhogä, duùkha-yonaya eva te
ädy-antavantaù Kaunteya, na teñu ramate budhaù
An intelligent person does not take part in the sources of misery, which are due to contact with
the material senses. O son of Kunté, such pleasures have a beginning and an end, and so the
wise man does not delight in them.
------------------------
Bg 7.10
béjaà mäà sarva-bhütänäà, viddhi pärtha sanätanam

paraà bhävam ajänanto, mamävyayam anuttamam
Unintelligent men, who do not know Me perfectly, think that I, the Supreme Personality of
Godhead, Kåñëa, was impersonal before and have now assumed this personality. Due to their
small knowledge, they do not know My higher nature, which is imperishable and supreme.

paramaà puruñaà divyaà, yäti pärthänucintayan
He who meditates on Me as the Supreme Personality of Godhead, his mind constantly engaged

Vedic culture centers on the cow. In fact, without cows there can be no true Vedic culture. Veda
means “knowledge”—in the highest sense, spiritual knowledge. And as Çréla Prabhupäda
explains, cow protection and brahminical culture are “the two pillars of spiritual
advancement.” (Çrémad-Bhägavatam 1.17.20)
Now, it is easy for even an outsider to understand why brahminical culture is considered
indispensable for spiritual advancement. After all, brähmaëas are the disseminators of spiritual
knowledge and the exemplary maintainers of spiritual standards, just like the priestly class in
any society.
But what about cows? What do cows have to do with spiritual advancement? And why cows?
Why not sheep or goats or horses?
In his purport to Lord Caitanya’s statement above, Çréla Prabhupäda gives us the clue. “The
words of Lord Caitanya Mahäprabhu, the greatest authority, herein clearly indicate that one
becomes pious simply by keeping cows and protecting them.” How can that be? One reason is
that cows are emblems of the mode of goodness.
Of course, we know that God is never bound by any pious or apparently impious acts. Being the
ultimate cause of all karmic reactions, He Himself is transcendental to such cause and effect.
Nevertheless, even in His joking words we find important truthful instructions. Human beings
can become elevated by taking care of cows (or degraded by slaughtering them.)
If we examine the specific qualities of the brähmaëas, persons in the mode of goodness, we
can begin to see how those qualities are automatically cultured in a society that relies for
its economic base on farming and cow protection. In the Bhagavad-gétä (18.42), Kåñëa
lists the qualities of the brähmaëas: “Peacefulness, self-control, austerity, purity,
tolerance, honesty, knowledge, wisdom, and religiousness.” Let’s look at how a person
might develop these qualities by protecting cows.

yad-anudhyäsinä yuktäù, karma-granthi-nibandhanam
chindanti kovidäs tasya, ko na kuryät kathä-ratim
With sword in hand, intelligent men cut through the binding knots of reactionary work [karma]
by remembering the Personality of Godhead. Therefore, who will not pay attention to His
message?

Mahabharata –
tarko 'pratiñöhaù çrutayo vibhinnä, näsäv åñir yasya mataà na bhinnam
dharmasya tattvaà nihitaà guhäyäà, mahäjano yena gataù sa panthäù
Realization of the Absolute Truth cannot be attained by pursuing logic, since one’s logic may
be defeated by a better logician; a philosopher does not become distinguished unless he defeats
all the previous philosophers; learning about the Absolute from the çästras is very difficult
because of their variety and grave meaning; but the Absolute Truth is hidden in the hearts of the
unalloyed pure devotees; therefore, one should follow the path of the mahäjanas – pure
devotees.

--------------------------
It is also stated in Kaöha Upaniñad (1.2.9):
naiñä tarkeëa matir äpaneyä, proktänyenaiva sujïänäya preñöha
yäà tvam äpaù satya-dhåtir batäsi, tvädåì no bhüyän naciketaù prañöä
The fact is that the Supreme Personality of Godhead, the Supersoul, cannot be attained simply
by explanations, logic and erudite scholarship. One cannot understand Him simply by one’s
brain substance. Even by studying all the Vedic literatures, one cannot understand the Supreme
Lord. However, if one is slightly favored by the mercy of the Lord, if the Lord is pleased, one
can understand Him.

Lord Brahmä said: O Supreme Lord, O changeless, unlimited supreme truth. You are the origin
of everything. Being all-pervading, You are in everyone's heart and also in the atom. You have
no material qualities. Indeed, You are inconceivable. The mind cannot catch You by
speculation, and words fail to describe You. You are the supreme master of everyone, and
therefore You are worshipable for everyone. We offer our respectful obeisances unto You.
