Think about what you want to say before transmitting


Listen before transmitting on a frequency for any previous communications that may
still be occurring
Wait for any aircraft to finish reading back an ATC given instruction to begin
transmitting
Test your microphone for audio device routing, quality, and volume levels before
connecting
Keep transmissions short and to the point (Avoid using phrases like "with you")

Contact:
Who - Your callsign
Where - Where you are located?
Airport of location if on the ground
Approximate distance, direction, the altitude from a navigational aid or airport if
airborne
What and any other pertinent info - What you are requesting and things like current
ATIS information if at an airport with an ATIS available

Squawk:
If flying VFR squawk 1200 in North America and 7000 everywhere else in the world.
Always on mode CHARLIE.
7500 is banned on VATSIM.
