Assignment Objectives:

Upon completion of this assignment,

 Students will gain a clear understanding of the concepts of Private Self-awareness and
Public self-awareness
 Students will be able to identify the instances of Private Self-awareness and Public self-
awareness from real word situations
 Students will be able to understand the impact of Public and Private self-awareness on their
personal growth and development

Given below is a scenario related to Public self-awareness and Private self-awareness, which have
been discussed in lecture 10 of your course. Please listen lecture carefully to prepare the
assignment.
Please read the given scenario carefully and answer the subsequent questions. Each question
carries 5 marks.

Sarah, a university student, is giving a presentation in front of her class. As she speaks, she
notices her classmates are nodding heads in agreement and making eye contact, reinforcing her
confidence. However, she also perceives a slight shift in body language from a few other
students with crossed arms, furrowed brows, and exchanging looks between them with a
sarcastic smile. In this moment, Sarah becomes more conscious of her actions and appearance
and starts setting her hair in place and adjusting her clothes. She starts questioning her delivery,
wondering if she missed a crucial point or if her arguments are not as convincing as she initially
thought. However, in the face of these external indicators Sarah tries to adjust her behavior and
her tone of voice to show calm exterior. Later, when Sarah returns home, she engages in self-
reflection, thinking about her performance as a presenter, identifying areas of improvement, and
assessing her emotions about the experience. She was reflecting on whether she has conquered
the situation or if it has knocked her down.
You are required to:
1. Define private self-awareness and identify instances of private self-awareness from the
given scenario.
2. Define public self-awareness and identify instances of public self-awareness from the
given scenario.
3. Discuss how public self-awareness influences an individual’s social behavior? Provide
one real life example.
4. Discuss the role of private self-awareness in an individual’s personal growth and
development.

Note: Answer of each question should not exceed above 200 words.
