NAME OF BUSINESS: BEEBANK – quality honey at your doorstep.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Beekeeping is the system of keeping bees for honey production. Bees produce
honey and are effective pollinators. However, traditional beekeeping in the
Gambia, is mainly associated with massive destruction of bee habitats and bee
life, thereby imposing considerable negative impacts on agricultural production.

Beekeeping is a very lucrative job, but Gambia still depends on neighboring

Senegal to meet her local demand for honey. Beebank aims to bridge that gap
by providing quality and affordable honey to the average Gambian, while
protecting bees against harm.

The customer base of bee bank is the local market, supermarkets, hotels etc.
Mission of beebank is to provide quality and affordable bee products to the
average Gambian while protecting bee life as captured in the SDGs.Vission is
to provide affordable honey to the average Gambian by 2030.

BUSINESS DESCRIPTION

Beebank is a newly established partnership business run by a group of

University students. As concerned agriculturists, conscious of the impacts of
bees on crop production, the pioneers aim to produce honey while preserving
bee habitat and bee life.

The apiary is located in Farato and currently employs 15 people. It is 100m

away from the main highway and 10m away from the Farato Women’s garden.
The land is leased from one Fabakary Ceesay and measures 100m x100m. It
currently owns 25 beehives (KTB) and involves the production of honey and
other edible bee products (beewax etc).

Beebank is a profit-making business venture that produces honey and other bee
products. It aims to provide employment for the youth and meet the local
demand for honey.
Honey is a valuable commodity; it is rich in carbohydrates, proteins and
calcium. It has huge medicinal value and used in the treatment of wounds. They
are antioxidants and antibacterial agents and thus very good preservatives.
Beewax is also used in soap and candle making and for decoration purposes.

From the survey conducted, there is inadequate supply of quality honey in our
local markets. And in the event where it is adequate, it is beyond the reach of
the average Gambian. Beebank aims to fill that vacuum by producing enough
honey and making it affordable to low-income earners. The business also
provides delivery services at a low cost, and consultancy services for starter ups.

MARKET STRATEGIES

Market research indicates that the market demand for quality honey is very high
given that local production is insufficient and thus has to depend on
neighbouring countries to make up that deficiency.

The research was centred on demand, supply, price, producers and consumers,
and the results showed that demand is high, but supply is low due to inadequate
local production of quality honey. A total of 50 consumers were randomly
interviewed, and 90 per cent of the respondents stated that honey price is very
exorbitant and of low quality.

Beebank distributes their products to supermarkets, Lumos and other

distribution centres across the country, where the products are sold on both
wholesale and retail. It has various media handles in the form Facebook,
WhatsApp, Twitter, Instagram, Tiktok etc.

Orders can be placed on our website (www.Beebank.gm)

Honey is in 10mm sachets. This ensures affordability for high and low-income
earners.

COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS

The traditional method of keeping bees is harmful to bee habitat and produces
low quality honey. Furthermore, it does not meet the local demand for
consumption and therefore making it expensive for low-earning consumers.
Beebank intervenes in that regard.

Beebank produces quality and affordable honey to low-income earners, both in

the urban areas and in the hinterland. It also provides consultancy services and
guidance for starter ups. Delivery services are also a crucial component of the
business.

Given that customers’ access to certain products could be difficult due to tight
work schedule and other commitments, Beebank provides delivery services to
the doorsteps of customers at a very reasonable cost. Any location within the
greater Banjul area is assured of timely delivery within 24 hours of placing an
order through our website, Whatsapp or through our official numbers.

Our greatest strength lies in effective communication. We are available anytime

in between the hours of 8am to 12am. However, poor road network and traffic
congestion are limiting factors for effective and timely delivery service.
