3.Threshing system:
Threshing involves separating the sterilized fruits from the bunch stalks. Sterilized FFBs are fed into a drum strippe
and the drum is rotated, causing the fruits to be detached from the bunch. The bunch stalks are removed as they do

disposed by incineration, giving ash as potash fertilizer, and fuel for boilers. Others are transported to th e
plantations for use as fertilisers in mulching near the palms. The total oil loss absorbed on the stalks depends o n
the sterilizing conditions and partly on the way the stripper is operated. Prolonged sterilization will increase oil los s
in stalks. Irregular feeding of the stripper may also result in increase of oil loss in stalks. Stalks which have fruits stil
attached on them are called hard bunches, and have to be recycled back to sterilizers for further cooking. Har d

4.Digesting System
After stripping, the fruits are moved into a digester where they are reheated to loosen the pericarp. Th steam-e
heated vessels have rotating shafts to which are attached stirring arms. The fruits are rotated about, causin the g
loosening of the pericarps from the nuts. The digester is kept full and as the digested fruit is drawn out, freshl y
stripped fruits are brought in. The fruits are passed into a screw press, where the mixture of oil, water, press cake o
fibre and nuts are discharged. Improvements in press designs have allowed fruits to undergo single or multiple
pressing. Second stage pressing on the press cake fibers enables more oil to be extracted.

5.Palm oil pressing system

Before the oil palm fruit is pressed, it must be cooked first, and the lyophilized fruit is reheated to soften the flesh
and destroy the cell structure of the flesh. After cooking, it is pressed into a continuous screw press.

Oil palm fruit is divided into two parts after pressing: oil, water,a mixture of solid impurities and pressed cake (fibe
and core). The mixture of oil, water and solid impurities flows into the oil purification section through the oil sump
the pressed cake enters the fiber recovery section through the broken cake auger.

6. Oil Clarification System

A mixture of oil, water, and solids from the bunch fibers is delivered from the press to a clarification tank. In th e
conventional process, separation of the oil from the rest of the liquor is achieved by settling tanks based on gravity
The mixture containing the crude oil is diluted with hot water to reduce its viscosity. A vibrating screen helps remove
some of the solids. The oil mixture is heated to 85-90°C and allowed to separate in the clarification tank. A settlin g
time of 1-3 h is acceptable. Oil from the top is skimmed off and purified in the centrifuge prior to drying in vacuu m
dryer. The final crude palm oil is then cooled and stored. The lower layer from the clarification tank is sent to th e
centrifugal separator where the remaining oil is recovered. The oil is dried in vacuum dryers, cooled and sent t o
storage tanks. Using Vacuum dryer take out the moisture of the oil,water can be reduced to 0.1%.

7. Palm kernel recovery System:Palm kernel oil (PKO) is a lucrative product from palm oil fruit. After palm

oil is produced, the palm kernel remains. Processing the kernels provides an additional source of revenue.
Traditionally, palm kernel nuts were cracked by hand. This tedious and inefficient method was then replaced by a
palm kernel cracking machine, which could crack the nuts, but separation of nuts and shells still had to be done
