b. express appreciation on the different composers of the Romantic period trough
poem composition; and
c. create a simple melody of a composer in the Romantic Period through musical
instrument.

Now that we know what are the
similarity and differences of both music
let us now know our topic the music of
the Romantic period, so class romantic
period is described as a cultural
movement that stressed emotion,
imagination, individualism and freedom
of expression. Nationalism was also
incorporated in the music of Romantic
period. Nationalism terms of being
patriotic, having a strong feeling for
one’s nation and expressing excessive

pride in one’s country or culture
Most of the musical compositions of the
era portray literature, history, emotions
and nature.

features and the composers during the
Romantic Period.

is nationalism, and also we have the
three famous instrumental music during
this time, this are the violin and string
music, piano music, and program music
so under violine and string music.

For your next activity I will divide the
class into 7 groups and each group will
be assign one composer during the
romantic period. I will give you 10 min
to do your research, in your presentation
it should contains the background of the
composers, in what instrumental music
they belong and their famous
composition.

• At age of 5 he plays mandolin
• At the age of 7, he transferred his
training in violin.
• Became the famous violin virtuoso in

FREDERIC CHOPIN
• Born March 1, 1810, in Zelazowa,
Poland
• Was known as the “ Poet of the Piano”
• Was considered world renowned pianist
and composer.
• Began playing piano at the age of 4
• Composed polonies at the age 7
• Studied piano at warsaw conservatory
under Wilhelm Wurfel and most of his
music was influenced by folk music
PIANO WORKS
Ballade- a verse form usually consisting of
three stanzas of eight or ten lines.
Etude- a piece composed for development
of a specific point of technique.
Mazurka- a polish dance
Nocturne- an instrumental composition of
pensive, dreamy mood.
Polonaise- a stately, march like polish
dance, promenade.
Prelude- an introductory performance
events or action
Waltz- a piece of music for this dance
Sonata- composition for one or solo
instruments.

Franz Liszt
• Born in Hungary
• Known as the virtuoso pianist and
composer and the busiest musicians
during the romantic period.
• At the age of 6, understand sight
reading through the efforts of his father.
• Dedicated himself doing piano music.
• People consider him as generous
composer by sharing both time and
money to the orphans, victims of
disasters and taught music to many
students for free.

turning point at his late 20’s when the
virtuoso of violin Niccolo Paganini
perform, so he dedicated his life in
becoming a virtuoso pianist.

Robert Schumann
• Born in 1810 at Zwickau
• Famous composer that worked
insensitively between music and
words
• Was a composers, and considered
himself as the heir to the original
creative tradition of Beethoven and
Schubert.
• In 1834, he founded music journal
where he edited and wrote numerous
works for his publication.

Carnaval op. 9- a portrait of masked ball
attended by his allies and his beloved Clara.

so in 1821, however he spent most of his
time with musical and literary circle with
the effort of Fredrich wrich that thought
schumann to play piano, and eventually
he convinced his family to put aside law
in favor of performing career.

• Born on December 11, 1803
• Is a French romantic composer
• At young age, he learns to play guitar
and flute.

never became skill in specific
instrument, he also studied medicine but
eventually ended up in the music
industry.

PETER ILYICH TCHAIKOVSKY


• Born on May 7, 1840, Russia
• Was known for his ballet music
• Studied law and became law clerk in
St. Petersburg
• Study music at the conservatory St.
Petersburg
• Continued his music career in New
York and conducted his works and
experienced deal of fame
• Died due to cholera.
