Experiment No. 7 New540
Experiment No. 7 New540
Equipment:
➢ Light Transducer & Signal Conditioner Trainer
➢ Connecting Wires
➢ Power Supply Unit
➢ Digital Multimeter (DMM)
The trainer consists of 7 different blocks out of which photodiode and photo resistor conditioner
blocks are used in this experiment. Both transducers present receiver part of respective sensors
and source is a separate unit. The external unit TY13/EV contains the light source (3-Watt 24v
incandescent bulb), 3 different light sensors (photoresistor, photodiode, phototransistor) and a
second actuator to generate a trouble signal. A photodiode is a PN-junction diode that consumes
light energy to produce an electric current. They are also called a photo detector, a light detector,
and a photo-sensor. Photodiodes are designed to work in reverse bias condition.
Procedure Photoresistor:
➢ Connect Amplifier output to Light actuator of unit TY13/EV
➢ Set the lamp to the maximum distance with the slider
➢ Set the switch of the photoresistor conditioner block to the position A.
➢ Set the multimeter to measure the resistance between terminals 21 and 20 and note the
values in the Table.
➢ Now connect multimeter between terminal 19 and ground.
➢ Connect module G13 to all necessary supplies as mentioned at the unit.
➢ Adjust the position of slider of light source following the Table groupwise and note the
voltage V19.
➢ Make switch to B position and measure the voltage at terminal 22 and ground using
multimeter.
➢ Note the V22 in the Table following the LUX values for respective groups.

Incident light on the transducer of a diode can generate electron-hole pairs within the semiconductor material, leading
to a change in the conductivity of the diode. This change can be utilized to convert light energy into electrical signals,
enabling the diode to function as a photodetector or a solar cell.
