HASIL DISKUSI
“I stood there, lost and broken, as the symphony, to play, a melancholic reminder of
what had been and what was now lost.”
Phonetic Transcription: /aɪ stʊd ðɛː, lɒst ænd ˈbrəʊkən, æz ðə ˈsɪmfəni, tə pleɪ, ə
mɛˈlæŋkɒlɪk rɪˈmaɪndər əv wɒt hæd bɪn ænd wɒt wəz naʊ lɒst/
Vowels:
/ɛː/ in "there": This sound is a mid-front unrounded and have a sounded long
/ɒ/ in "lost": This is a short open-back rounded vowel sound,
/ə/ in "broken", "as", and "a". This sound is included to schwa, a netral and often
unstressed sound
/ɪ/ in "play" and "reminder". This sound is pronounced without any rounded infront of
mouth.
/ɒ/ in "of", "was", and "what". This sound is pronounced by droping the jaw just a little
and round the lips, unlike the unrounded /ɑ/ sound. Push your lips together and make
a short, voiced sound.
Diphthongs:
/aɪ/ in "I" and "symphony". This sound is pronounced by placing your tongue low in
your mouth, and shifted toward the back, to say /ɑ/. Then, as you vibrate your vocal
cords, lift your tongue high in the mouth and shift it forward, to say /ɪ/. The transition
between these two positions should be very quick.
/aʊ/ in "now". This sound is pronounced by starting with your mouth open wide, your
tongue down and your jaw down. As you produce this sound, round your lips and
move your jaw and tongue up.
/æ/ This sound is pronounced by slightly opening your mouth and relaxing your tongue
in "and", "melancholic", "had", and "what".
Consonants:
/st/ in "stood".
/ð/ in "there" and "the".
/r/ in "there", "broken", "reminder", "were", and "now".
/l/ in "lost", "melancholic", "play", "of", "what", and "was".
/n/ in "and", "broken", "reminder", "been", "now", and "on".
/k/ in "broken", "melancholic", "back", and "play".
/b/ in "broken" and "be".
/m/ in "melancholic" and "reminder".
