INPUT DEVICES TOPIC

near pod code- vhpd8

Group task- input devices :

Microphone
Optical mouse

1. Microphone -
Working-
-Has a diaphram that vibrates to produce an electrical signal
-this signal is sent to the sound card in the computer
-sound card contains an adc that converts the analogue
signal to binary values

Advantages of microphone:
-It is faster to read in text than to type it in using a keyboard type.
-possible to manipulate sound in real time using special software
rather than work on a recording done at some earlier stage.
-Improves security and convenience if used in a voice activation
system

Disadvantages:
-sound files take a lot of computer memory
-voice recognition is not as accurate as typing, which can lead
to grammatical problems (they're, their)

2. Optical Mouse-
Working:
Optical mouse works by using a tiny low-resolution video
camera(embedded in a sensor) to take successive images of the
surface on which the mouse operates
Disadvantages:
Surface Issues - Most optical mice need to have a level, smooth
and non-reflective surface to work on. Surfaces that are shiny
or made of glass mirror reflect the picture back to the picture
reader. this causes an issue because the software thinks its
seeing its own reflection and the mouse doesn’t move.
Cost- Optical mice are more expensive than other types of mice
in the market and some also require an expensive mouse mat.
Interferences- If you get a wireless optical mouse, and there
are any interferences between the mouse and the wireless
receiver, the mouse will not work.
Health problems- If someone has RSI (repetitive strain injury)
then using a mouse could be painful for them.
