1.Two cubic meters of water at room temperature has a weight of 19,600 N at a location where
the gravity = 9.80 m/s2. Find its specific wt. and density at a location where gravity is 9.66 m/s2.

2.Determine the pressure of the water in the pipe if the water seeks a height of 10 ft.

3. A 15 kg body falls from the rest (assuming no friction).Determine its velocity after it falls 10 m.

4. A 15 cm diameter piston was uniformly applied by a force of 1200 N. Find the pressure on the
piston.

5.A glass tube contains an oil of specific gravity of 0.85 to a depth of 150 cm. Find the gauge pressure
at this depth.

6.The pressure recorded in the condenser of a steam power plant is 720mm of Hg vacuum. Find the
absolute pressure in the condenser in Pa. The barometric reading is 760 mm Hg.

7. A barometer contains mercury with a density of 13,593 kg/m 3. Atmospheric conditions are 101.32
kPa and 20℃. At this temperature the vapor pressure of the mercury is 0.000173 kPa. At what height
will the Hg rise?

8.The density of the gas is 2.5 kg/m3. What is the specific weight of the gas?

9. A fluid has a density of 920 kg/m 3. What is the specific gravity of the fluid?

10.A vessel is initially connected to a reservoir open to the atmosphere. The connecting valve is then
closed and a vacuum of 54.9 kPa is applied to a vessel. Assume the standard atmospheric pressure.
Determine the absolute pressure.

11. A 32℃- water flows at 2m/s through a pipe that has an inside diameter of 25mm. The viscosity of
water is 820 x 10 - 6 N-s / m2 and density of water = 999 kg/m3. Find the kinematic viscosity of water.

12. A fluid with a vapor pressure of 0.4 Pa and a specific gravity of 14 is used in a barometer. The
fluid’s column height is 0.8 m. Find the atmospheric pressure.

13.A condenser vacuum gauge reads 580 mm Hg when the barometer reads 760 mm Hg. Determine
the absolute pressure in bars and kN/ m2.
14. Calculate the : a. height of mm Hg column in a barometer placed on a mountain with local pressure
of 12.9 psi
b. equivalent pressure gauge of a compound gauge measuring a pressure of 25.3

15. Convert vacuum pressure of 110 mm Hg into absolute pressure in meters of water if the
atmospheric pressure is 10.33 meters of water. SG of Hg = 13.6.

16.The temperature of a solution is 28 ℃ . Convert this temperature to absolute Fahrenheit which is

17.Determine the pressure (kPa) of metal structure at the bottom of a brine ( salt solution) tank 2.42 m
deep. The specific gravity of brine equals 1.03.

18.The density of water is typically taken as 62.4 lbm/ft3 and 1000kg/m3 for engineering problems
where greater accuracy is not required. What is the value in (a) slugs/ft3 and (b) kg/m3 .

19. Determine the sea level specific weights of liquids in lbf/ft3 having densities of : a. 1.75 slug/ft3
b. 62.6 lbm/ft3 with g = 32.2 ft/ sec2.

20. A 120 g of water is mixed with 200g of another fluid (density = 940 kg/m 3). Determine the specific
gravity and specific volume of the resulting mixture assuming the volumes are additive and mixture is
homogeneous

21. Oil with a specific gravity of 0.97 is used as the indicator in a manometer. If the differential
pressure across the ends of the manometer is 8 kPa, determine the difference in oil levels in the
manometers.

22. A pressure of 42 kPa is measured 2.8m below the surface of an unknown liquid. Determine the
specific gravity of the liquid.

23.The average specific gravity of seawater is 1.2. Determine the absolute pressure at the bottom of
2800 m of sea.

24.A fluid with a vapor pressure of 0.102 Pa and a specific gravity of 9.65 is used as a barometer. If
the fluid’s column height is 1.25m, find its atmospheric pressure.

25. The pressure gauge of a boiler reads 170 lb/ in2 . Determine the pressure of the boiler in
Megapascal absolute.
