Climate change poses threats to the Philippines food security.

What impact can these changes

affect the Agricultural and Fishing Industries of the Philippines?

● It should come as no surprise that climate changes like extreme cold or hot temperatures
or considerably increased or inconsistent rainfall would make people more susceptible to
food insecurity and underweight children. It may have an impact on a wide range of
industries, particularly those in the agricultural and fishing sectors. Agriculture is already
at risk for food insecurity and has been dealing with severe crop failure risks, new pest
and disease patterns, a lack of adequate seeds and planting resources, and livestock
loss. On the other hand, since agriculture links with the fishery field, climate change has
also affected this field, such as rising ocean temperatures and increased acidity, which
make it more difficult for marine organisms to live.

There are many factors contributing to today’s food security crisis. For example, on your own
perspective how is COVID-19 having an impact? This is not the question I gave you during your
exam…where did you get this question?

● It is widely understood that the COVID-19 pandemic has increased food insecurity
among Filipino adults and children because of rising unemployment, which causes
people to have less money for expenses; limited access to school nutrition programs due
to school closures that prevent children from knowing what they are eating; and
problems in the food supply caused by public spending in other sectors, which both
directly and indirectly increased undernourishment. In conclusion, COVID-19 has an
impact on both the supply and demand of the food markets, raising food prices and
causing poverty and food insecurity in many developing and growing nations, especially
our democratic country, the Philippines.
