FACT
 Refers to something that can be verified or proved to
be true.
 Something that really happened.
 Universal truth.
 Based on research or observation.
 Unbiased words (there are numbers, names, places,
dates)
OPINION
 Refers to a judgement or belief of someone.
 Assumption or personal view.
 Perception of something.
 Differs from person to person
 Expressed with biased words like think, maybe, feel,
believe, probably, best, worst, favorite.
 Clue words for opinion statements include the
following:
I believe, I feel, I think, maybe, in my opinion,
probably, possibly.

” Polar bears are animals that live near the Nort Pole. The
ground there is mostly ice. The fur on polar bears looks white.
Polar bears hunt and eat seals and other ocean animals. Most
polar bears cubs stay with their mothers until they are about two
years old. The cubs are very cute, and they look like teddy
bears. “
