CHAPTER II
METHODOLOGY

Research Design

In this study, we investigated the perception of senior high school students regarding

the drop out cases using Convergent Mixed Method (CM) research design. The purpose of

the study is to investigate the perception of Senior High School (SHS) students regarding to

drop out cases in Occidental Mindoro National High School. Convergent Mixed Method

research design will be used in this study since the data will be collected at the same time

through a consolidated survey instrument, analyzed separately, and then compared to have

complete understanding of the research problem. The respondents of the study are SHS

students of the Occidental Mindoro National High School. This often occurs through “case

study”, personal experience, and life story”.

Population and Sampling Method

The population and sampling method we used is simple random sampling. Because it is a

subset of individuals chosen from a larger set (a population) each individual is chosen randomly

and entirely by chance, such what each individual has the same probability of being chosen at any

stage during the sampling process, and each subset of SHS individuals has the same probability of

being chosen for the samples as any other subset of SHS individuals.

Research Instrument

The research instrument we used is the survey questionnaire, survey questionnaire helps us

to collect data about the Perception of SHS students towards on drop out cases in OMNHS. By

that research instrument, we can know the perception of the SHS students in Occidental Mindoro

National High School. Survey questionnaire help us to gather some data or information which

regards to our topic.

Data Gathering Procedures

In data gathering, we determined the population of our respondents from our research

location wherein Occidental Mindoro National High School. We considerably and humbly asked

the perception of Senior High School Students on our study and for their cooperation with us.

Giving them the survey form to our respondents is a part of the procedure.

Data Analysis

The existential analysis is used in our study. It is concerned with the understanding of

people’s position in the world and with the clarification of what it means to be alive. It is also

committed to exploring these questions with a receptive attitude, rather than a dogmatic one. The

search for truth with an open mind and an attitude of wonder is the aim, not the fitting of the client

into pre-established categories and interpretations. The existential approach considers human

nature to be open-ended, flexible and capable of an enormous range of experience. There is no

essential, solid self, no given definition of one’s personality and abilities.

This analysis focuses to those problems that exist. It probably helps us to determine the possible

solutions regarding to our research study.

By using existential analysis, we avoided restrictive models that categorize or label people.

Instead, we look for the universals that can be observed transculturally. There is no existential

personality theory which divides humanity up into types or reduces people to part components.

Instead, there is a description of the different levels of experience and existence that people are

inevitably confronted with.
