Sikolohiyang Pilipino
It is also called “Filipino Psychology” or Indigenous
Filipino Psychology for Filipino People.

Zeus Salazar Pinpointed four traditions upon which

Philippine psychology is rooted:

Academic Western Psychology – this tradition follows

the psychology of Wilhelm Wundt in 1876.
Academic Philosophic Psychology – this tradition was
started by priest-professors at the University of Santo
Tomas, themselves having philosophical training.
Ethnic Psychology – this is the tradition on which
Philippine psychology is mainly based.
Psycho-medical Religious Psychology – this tradition
fuses native healing techniques and explicates it in an
indigenous religious context.

Evaluating a Person’s Personality Using the Core

Values of Sikolohiyang Pilipino

Pakikipagkapwa – it is also known as Kapwa

Psychology precisely because of its emphasis on the
concept of kapwa.
Pakiramdam- it is usually depicted as a vital shared
inner perception that is essentially connected with and
compliments the shared identity of kapwa.
Bahala Na- how Filipinos use the expression “ bahala
na” has long been misunderstood by outsiders as they
view it as merely exhibiting the factualism of easy-
going people.

E. What is Pantayong Pananaw?

Pantayong Pananaw is a Filipino-based ‘from-us-for-us
perspective’, a communication-ba
sed framework whose aim is to produce a ‘national
discourse’.

The Significance of Using a Particular Language for

Discourse
As a country, the Philippines is a group of numerous
islands with rich linguistic and cultural diversity.
Today, there are 171 living languages spoken in the
Philippines (Mother-Tongue-Based Education in the
Philippines).
