Dr. Phani Adidam

August 10, 2023

Part-1: About the lecture and lecturer in general.

The inaugural guest lecture in the Managing in a Global Context course was presented by Dr. Sajid
Marickar, currently serving as the Regional Manager at BISSELL Homecare, Inc.(No 1 manufacturer
for vacuum cleaner in America), an American home care brand. With prior roles at Toshiba
Corporation, Samsung, and Al-Futtaim Group, he holds diverse experience. This background enriched
his insightful delivery on cross-cultural comprehension for global managers. The lecture delved into
work culture, highlighting distinct aspects in Chinese, Korean, and American contexts, emphasizing
the significance of culture. The discourse encompassed vital subjects including cross-cultural
negotiation and insights into Middle Eastern culture, enhancing the lecture's captivating nature.

Part-2: include four important issues that you learned from the lecture.

1) Communicating, collaborating, networking, engaging.

2) Cross Cultural Negotiations styles like values & belief, interest, style of negotiating.
3) In Middle eastern culture the hospitality is very important and Polychronic Time - delayed
response is very common in middle eastern culture.
4) Chinese firms are acquiring substantial stakes in prominent global corporations, such as Volvo,
Toshiba's electronics division purchased by Midea, General Electric Appliance Business, and
AMC Entertainment Holdings, without rebranding them. These acquisitions involve significant
shareholding, granting influence but not fully operational control over major business entities.
Part-3 : Include a professional critique of the lecturer.

Dr. Sajid Marickar's guest lecture on cross-cultural comprehension for global managers was
insightful, emphasizing cultural complexities in Chinese, Korean, and American contexts. His
practical examples enriched understanding, particularly in cross-cultural negotiation. However, the
brief coverage of Middle Eastern culture and limited exploration of negotiation challenges slightly
hindered the lecture's depth. Nevertheless, his presentation effectively underscored culture's role in
international business. In conclusion, while commendable for its engaging approach and valuable
insights, a more balanced cultural analysis and deeper examination of negotiation pitfalls would have
enhanced the learning experience in global management.

Part-4: Rate the lecture and lecturer on a 5 point scale (5 being the highest) separately.

I rate the guest lecture with a score of 4.9 out of 5. The lecture provided valuable information, and I
personally appreciated the insights into various cultures and their significance for global managers.
Learning how to apply these insights was enlightening.

As for the lecturer, Dr. Sajid Marickar, I give a perfect score of 5 out of 5. He demonstrated
exceptional skills in delivering an interactive session. His ability to connect theoretical concepts with
practical examples made the content engaging and easy to grasp. The use of intriguing examples
further enhanced the learning experience.
