What is a robot?

A robot is a mechanical device designed to carry out tasks or actions automatically, often mimicking
human movements or behavior. It can be programmed to perform specific functions, such as assembly
line work, household chores, or even complex surgeries. Robots can have sensors to perceive their
environment, processors to make decisions, and actuators to carry out physical actions. They come in
various forms, from industrial robots used in manufacturing to humanoid robots that resemble humans.
Some robots are autonomous, meaning they can operate independently, while others require human
control.

What is robotics??

Robotics is the field of study and practice that involves designing, building, and programming robots. It
combines various disciplines like engineering, computer science, and mathematics to create machines
that can perform tasks autonomously or with human guidance. Robotics explores the development of
robot hardware, such as mechanical components and sensors, as well as the software that controls their
behavior.

Components of a robot

1)Body or chasis frame - The body, also known as the chassis, is the physical structure of the robot that
provides support and houses the other components.

2)Processor- The processor, often a computer or microcontroller, acts as the brain of the robot. It
processes information from the sensors and sends commands to the actuators.

3) Sensors- Sensors are used to gather data about the robot's environment. They can include cameras,
microphones, touch sensors, and more.

4) Actuators- Actuators are responsible for the physical movement of the robot. They can be electric
motors, hydraulic systems, or pneumatic systems.

5) Power source- The power source provides the energy needed for the robot to function. It can be
batteries, electrical outlets, or other sources depending on the specific robot.

Types of robots

1) Mobile robots - Mobile robots are robots that can move around in different places. They can be used
for things like driving cars without a human, helping in hospitals or homes, exploring space or
underwater, or doing tasks in factories. These robots have sensors to see and understand their
surroundings, and they can use wheels, tracks, or legs to move.
2) Industrial robots -Industrial robots are robots that work in factories and help with tasks like
assembling, welding, or packaging. They can do repetitive jobs quickly and accurately, making
production faster and more efficient. They have special tools and sensors to do their work and keep
people safe. Overall, they make manufacturing easier and better.

3) Autonomous robots -Autonomous robots are robots that can do things by themselves without people
telling them what to do. They can move around, see and understand their surroundings, and make
decisions on their own. They use sensors and algorithms to figure out what to do next. These robots are
used in things like self-driving cars, delivery robots, or robots that explore places humans can't go.

4)Remote control robots - Remote control robots are robots that can be controlled by a person from a
distance using a remote control device. The remote control sends signals to the robot, telling it what to
do, such as moving forward, backward, or turning. These robots are often used in entertainment,
education, or even in hazardous environments where it may not be safe for humans to go.

Purpose of robots

1. Automation: Robots automate repetitive tasks, boosting productivity and efficiency in industries like
manufacturing and logistics.

2. Exploration and Research: Robots venture into challenging environments, such as space and deep-
sea, gathering valuable data and expanding our knowledge.Robots assist scientists in conducting
experiments, collecting data, and advancing research in various fields.

4. Assistance and Support: Robots provide aid to individuals, like the elderly or those with disabilities,
helping with daily tasks and improving their quality of life.

5. Medical Applications: Robots play a vital role in medicine, aiding surgeons in complex procedures,
supporting rehabilitation therapies, and enhancing healthcare delivery.

Advantages of robots

1)They can perform task faster than human much more consistently and accurate

2)Robots increase workplace safety

3)They increase productivity and quality of products in factories

4)Working at places 24/7 without any salary or food

Disadvantages of robots

1)People can loose jobs in factories

2)Lack of emotions

3)They have limited duties as they will only do what is programmed and cannot think for themselves

4)The initial investment to integrated automated robotics is high

Conclusion -In conclusion, robots are incredible tools that offer numerous benefits to society. They
enhance productivity, improve efficiency, and ensure safety in various industries. From automating
repetitive tasks to exploring new frontiers, robots have the potential to revolutionize our lives. They
assist in research, support individuals with disabilities, and play a crucial role in medical applications.
With their precision, endurance, and ability to handle dangerous tasks, robots are paving the way for a
more advanced and efficient future. So, let's embrace the power of robots and continue to harness their
potential for the betterment of society!
